I've been looking into replacing my 93 rx7 motor & tranny with one that's been imported from Japan. I found two companies that has the cheapest prices and was wondering if anybody has heard of them? The two companies are nagasakijdmmotors.com and tigerjapanese.com. They are both based out of Canada.

Has anybody did a swap like this before? Just wondering what all I will have to modify to make this work? The swap comes with a complete motor, tranny, uncut wiring harness, and computer. Any info would be great.

Thanks

I've heard nothing but bad things about Tigerjapanese.

I'm hearing this from other forums also. Thanks!

it`s not recommended to swap a j-spec without knowing that it worked 100% in the past

you can only check the seals through the exhaust ports to get an idea of the internal condition , but you can never know of any bearing problems , coolant seals failures etc

you would have to open it up

he is right if your getting a used rotary it has been my experience ( ihave gone through I think its 6 motors now) that if you get a used motor that has not thrown a seal or been over heated then you need to at minimum rebiuld the engine. Act like the motor your buying is a core that can be rebiult. Its about as cheap as a core and you get all the extras free (ecu, harness, turbos if they are not over worn, intake manifold, injectors, etc)

I'm starting to see that I'm gonna have to break down and do a rebuild. I wanted this to quick and easy but I don't think it'll happen that way. Since you've went through about 6 motors now, do you have any good sources to get a long block cheap?

Depending on what the issues are with your motor, consider buying a MAZDA reman. I'd recommend contacting someone like Ray at MALLOY MAZDA. He's an FD owner and as conscentious as you'll find. This is key since reman quality has been inconsistent. Hopefully through Ray you'll get a good base...new housings, most gaskets, bearings and seals. But I'd recommend you break it down anyway to make sure rotors are matched etc. That will cost you a couple of hundred to do, but worth it to know it's a solid motor and things like the oil pick-up haven't been plugged with gasket sealant. IIRC, $2600 + core + about $300 shipping both ways (reman in, and core out). Depending on what is wrong with your current motor, this could still be cheaper than buying all the individual gasket and seal kits, housings, bearings etc. and you'll end up with a good solid motor. My .02.

^One other thing, you'll also have warranty.

yes i agree with staying away from any RX7 JDM engines unless you plan on rebuilding them or parting them out. A reman is the most cost effective way and ray at malloy is prob your best bet for a remain.

Your other options are to look at getting yours rebuilt, you have many options then at that point as far as getting a street port or 3 mm seals, all depending on how much you want to spend. I spend between 3500- 4000 with porting, seals and a bunch of other work done.
