I have been working on a hard/impossible to start issue with my 92 JDM FD in the last couple weeks. Since I wanted to do some maintenance and look over the whole car anyways I didnt worry about fixing the issue until after that work was done.

So i put in a new fuel pump, fuel filter, redid the rats next, new plugs, new wires, etc....

That work has been completed now and Im troubleshooting the hard/impossible to start problem. I tried to check the codes last night but all I am getting is a solid MIL. By that I mean when i turn the ignition to the on position it illuminates the LED for a few seconds, then the led goes out for a few seconds then comes on and stays on. I think this means I have an issue with the ECU but have not been able to find any documentation to support this. Anyone know what a solid MIL means?

jdm car you need the code checker?

Nope, just need a 12v led and a 680 ohm resistor to get the codes.

i thought the CEL light stayed on until the car was started, UNLESS there were codes to be displayed.. Or has it just been that damned long since i've driven mine??

I check the operation of the LED on another 92 FD at the shop and it lit the led for a few seconds, then it went off and did not come back on. This makes me believe that a constant MIL means the ecu i toast but i cant find it in the FSM or on any of the rotary forums.

So far everyone ive talked to has never seen this before. Im going to try my ecu on another FD to see if it gives the same solid MIL. If it does work i guess ill be testing wiring between the ecu and all the sensors :(

yeah if its solid its not good

I tried my ECU on an FD at the shop and it displayed a solid MIL, so it looks like my ECU is toast. Now I need to find out if there is a problem with the wiring on the car that damaged the ecu or not. I would try the working ECU off the car in the shop on my FD but dont want to buy two new ECU's :(

From what I have seen on the working FD at the shop the MIL (Led ive put in the diagnostic box) lights up for about 3 seconds when the ignition is turned on but goes out and does not come back on. Im not sure if the USDM FD's are different or not.

Can anyone confirm this? JDM or USDM or both?
