[quote name='fritzfry' date='Jun 27 2005, 10:20 PM']so your cooling system sees about the same temps as the unblocked radiator in the v-mount setup? do you have some kind of special ducting? or is any difference negligible between the two?

your going to see the difference between V mount and FMIC temps at the auto x or road racing courses though. Just about no one runs FMIC's at these events..

I have run the medium PFS intercooler for years. Works great, battery stays where it was, a 30 minute install, no hassles, and I sure don't run stock boost levels.

And by the way, I also still have my factory radiator and stock front end and I have never overheated. I think you probably do better with a different, more air friendly bumper than a new radiator but I don't think either is really necessary.

have you ever been to an actual road course event? i've seen quite a few running fmic's

you can argue this point but i'm sure i'll have support from a bunch of track guys that would never run a FMIC..

It was just too bold of a "general" statement.

I've read more times than not, of guys over at 7Club posting about track days and they usually have FMIC's. The 3 FD's that showed up to the AutoX I attend had FMIC's as well.

It's interesting because I read complete opposite "results" of FMIC, V-Mount, Stock setups, and it gets even worse with the NPG coolant debate. You have 2 people with the same exact setup saying 2 totally opposite temp's in the same situation.

Fan Switch, Ducting, (re)placement, flushes, venting <--I believe that is the order of most to least effective, but all should be given proper attention.

With that said, I think you can get away with a good IC setup while avoiding the FMIC-method of blocking the radiator. I would look into the V-Mount, sounds like a no-brainer....

no offense to you or anything, but the event that you race at isn't one of the bigger track events around though bro.. the guys that were running FMIC prob don't track anywhere else but at your spot. I mean it's obvious why a FMIC for tracking purposes would allow for a easier over heating situation

No offense taken https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

Goodness joe, I know that. I know I only do the lowly "Autocross" right now, but I'm about to do a track event (first one available through the club since I got my FD) and I know for a fact that half of the guys that do the inferior cone racing ALSO do the track days.

Matter-of-factly, the 3 FD's that showed up were track guys that only showed up that one time to my local AutoX I attend.

Go post over at the club and ask if there's anyone that uses FMIC at the track if you need to know if anyone does.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...closedeyes.gif

SMIC vs. FMIC vs. VMIC

The debate seems to be second only to Synthetic vs. Non-synthetic oil. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

I've read alot of the posts on both sides. I think you really have to be careful and read between the lines.

No matter what kind of IC a person is running... it's always the best, is immune to heat soak, doesn't contribute to heating issues, it cools so well you could frost a beer with it, and rather than have a pressure drop, it actually makes PSI https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/happy.png

Im seeing about 90-100c right now with a greddy 3 row. Last month it was pretty consistantly in the 80-90 range. Im also using a mazda compa rad with Evans. Seems to work just fine for me. I've had a PFS smic and the m2 large. Both of them also worked nicely.
