Ok...I was planning on going out tonight in my car for the first time but I gues I am not now. THeir is something wrong. When I bought it the guy said it would need a new clutch. Maybe that is it. When I am in first gear everything is fine except it bogs and acelerates very slowly. I have to shift really early because once I hit 3500RPMS it just shoots way up to the 5000 range. Then I shift to second and it stays in that range. Shift to third it stays the same. Shift to 4th the same. Shift to 5th and power comes back but very little. 1st and 5th are the only ones working. No speed at all. I am in 5th at around 40mph. Do I need a new tranny? Or clutch? PLease Help thanks!

clutch is bad. the slipping is caused by the clutches inability to turn engine torque into driveshaft movement. there's too much friction on the wheels.

Anyways, just change the clutch and you'll be fine.

Yeah that is what I thought too. I Guess he was right. Thanks

Joe Flo 12-19-2002 03:58 PM

Okay.....quick question. Is the clutch bad because it is stock and I have about 330rwhp? What is a good clutch for not alot of money???

Joe Flo 12-19-2002 06:10 PM

Update.....went to 5 places all around town. O-riellys had one for $569 and could have it by 8 tomorrow. I ended up getting a stock replacment at an import dealer for $340 and will also get it tomorrow. Will this be a good setup or should I have just gotten a better one since my Hp is over stock?

7mech 12-19-2002 06:24 PM

Should have gone with an aftermarket clutch. The stock one will most likely not hold up to the power you're putting down. Try checking with some of the sponsors or other shops here in Texas(ie. rx7.com and gotham racing). Those guys should have some good info.

Joe Flo 12-19-2002 07:41 PM

I don't think it is stock. it is more of a house brand I guess. But I guess that would just make it a stock replacement. I don't know.

Sinful7 12-19-2002 07:56 PM

it's all the same crap. if you're putting 330 down, you should look into something like an ACT Extreme Street/Strip. A stock replacement will work, but not for long. It'll wear down the friction surfaces pretty fast, because they will slip ever so slightly all the time.

Getting a good clutch is important. The stock clutch is fine for stock power levels, but with 330 hp ... you definitely need a good aftermarket one.

Joe Flo 12-19-2002 08:35 PM

Yeah I havent picked it up yet and I think I am going to cancel the order and get the ACT version. I found it cheap at rx7trix. My girlfriend said she saw a sign that they will charge a 20% restocking fee if I refund it. Can they charge that if I never picked it up?

MaTT_FoULk 12-19-2002 09:27 PM

Did you give them any money yet?

Joe Flo 12-19-2002 09:32 PM

credit card payment....yeah. But I didn't take it home. What is there to restock?

7mech 12-19-2002 09:42 PM

What they are charging you is the shipping cost to thier location(essentially). They charge this so they can make money even if they don't sell the part. That way it isn't a total loss for them to order a hard to sell part.

ACT street/strip is a good clutch. Easy to drive, not harsh, and holds a lot of power.

Joe Flo 12-19-2002 11:47 PM

Well I am calling them right when they open. The store they are getting it from is on the other side of town. So if I catch them before they send it then they have no excuse.

u might as well go for the flywheel as well..

Joe Flo 12-20-2002 11:37 AM

Why fly wheel?.......what are the benefits?

Joe Flo 12-20-2002 11:39 AM

Whoa

I think I better stick to the Clutch and get that later. I am still in highschool. Just bought my car last weekend and its Christmas time. SO I am flat broke
