okay guys earlier this evening i was drifting with my t78 rx7 and after i was done drifting the steering wheel was turned to the right yet i was going straight!?!?!?!? basically its turned about 45 degrees to the right and i still go straight....yet when i let go of the steering wheel the car turns hard to the left....is this an easy fix or is it my suspension ...i didnt hit anything or crash anything....i am just wondering how to make my alignment the way it used to be!

helP!!!

gdnimr0d 01-17-2004 01:15 AM

HELP!!!

turbovr6 01-17-2004 06:54 AM

I'm sorry buy you HAD to hit something. The only way that happens is if you knock the front end out of alignment.

JT-Imports 01-17-2004 07:13 AM

Yep.....

gdnimr0d 01-17-2004 09:59 AM

alright i will jack her up and look under the car what should i be looking for???

GarageBoy 01-17-2004 10:37 AM

Anything bent/broken. If it looks ok, send it over to an alignment shop

g_dripht-alex 01-17-2004 10:38 AM

look for a bent tie rod, that really sounds like your problem.

gdnimr0d 01-17-2004 10:45 AM

alright but i mean it would take soo much force to bend a tie rod i just cant imagine that would happen...at like a 30mph drift

FrestyleFC3S 01-17-2004 11:06 AM

anyone else see the pattern ...

rx7 + drift = bent tie end rod

gdnimr0d 01-17-2004 11:15 AM

haha our cars were made to do anything and drifting is what i choose to do....unlike drag racing ....autocross i would like to do....but drifting is my weapon of choice for now....

i just dont think that mazda made them that weak....they are thick enough to withstand a 30mph drift unless the bushing on them are shot and then all the shock and tension would have gone straight into the tie rod and bent it....that would suck!

gdnimr0d 01-17-2004 11:41 AM

sorry guys its not a bent tie rod i just got under the car and the brace around the strut ....well the bushing on that....that connects to the axle well its shot ...i mean its cracked and busted open so its time for me to get out the wrench and put some new bushings on ...as for the steering wheel being sideways after i type this i am going to remove the airbad unit and unscrew the single bolt that holds the wheel at its neutral spot and i am going to re align it....so thanks for the help anyways guys

peace out

gdnimr0d 01-17-2004 11:42 AM

oh and i am pretty sure my car is due for a good alignment haha

gdnimr0d 01-17-2004 11:44 AM

btw i am talking about the front left suspension

Just take the car to an alignment shop. trying to cure the problem by moving the steering wheel is not the answer. You will still have problems. The car will not drive correctly, you will have more full turns of the wheel in one direction than the other, and that is ghetto as hell!!!

Just bring it to a pro and have it checked.

OH and no just drifting the car will not brake or bend any tie rod, that is an asshat statement. I still say you hit something, that or something was loose(like a tie rod end), and all the drifting made it worse.

MazdaMike 01-17-2004 06:59 PM

yea id say bring it to a shop b4 u try moving the wheel problem wont be fixed just hidden

gdnimr0d 01-18-2004 09:42 AM

yeah i realized that after about 30 minutes of removing the air bag unit then slamming the wheel to get it to go back to it original position then just realized that what i was doing was retarded and yeah guys i am going to take it to an alignment shop soon ....thanks again guys peace out

steering rack bushings, when they go they will let the rack slide side to side

gdnimr0d 01-19-2004 08:15 AM

yep bushings are my problem and how much do you think they will cost is there any site where i could buy aftermarket ones?? i hate paying dealer prices!
