The car can be needy for repairs if you buy one that was poorly maintained. Yes the car uses alot of fuel.

You should learn to work on the car yourself if you plan on buying one.

There are enough online resources, especially between the two forums that you should find all the info you will need.

These links may be usefull to you.

And of coarse feel free to stay here as long as you like.

Well, your friends are probably right. The FD can require alot of maintenance, but probably no more than any other true sports car (like a lotus). The bigger problem is finding a mechanic to work on it. There are many rotary mechanics in the U.S., but none near me https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif. You may have a similar problem. Maybe you could work on the car yourself. you'll have these forums for support. The amount you spend on repairs will depend on how much work you do yourself. Shop around some websites to get an idea of the price of parts.

The car does burn alot of fuel. Not sure how many liters. If you are worried about fuel, definitely do not buy an FD.

Learn as much about the car before you buy one. This place is a good resource, as is rx7club.com (and all the places Fd3bOOST listed).

One more thing: you might not want to type in caps. Some people don't like it.

Do you have another car? That's pretty important. With a sports car... You just may need some back up. But, the overall maintenance is just like any other car. Just don't buy a bucket..

Where were you to see a yellow Elan, wide out on the handbrake AND women watching? Every woman sounds like there were a few there. Public roads?

You'll understand the lost cause thing in time...

I bought my rx7 2 weeks after I drove in a buddies . . .absoulutley loved it and never looked back.

heres my record :

1st year, usual stuff nothing major for first six months then, turbo lag problems out da yin yang.

took it to a local Mazda dealer (hey guys go easy on me . . .I didn't know that they know as little about it as me . . .at the time) cost $4800 bucks before it was on the road.

off the road for 2 months

4 months later, smoke out the rear (normally I see a doctor for this . . .and it would of been cheaper) problem with seals, rotor and engine needed to be sent to specialist for small rebiuld work . . .(again a Mazda dealer) 5 grand . . .this fix took a couple of months to get parts, fit in the schedule etc

at this point I had owned the car 14 months and had it in the shop roughly 5 months, so I bought a runaround jeep sahara. and Im glad I did too!

next year I had a problem with electrics, when it got wet . . I had too as well . . push the thing home!

cost a couple of hundred

pop up light crapped out on me . . cost a few hundred (its odd because I hit a deer in it a few weeks ago and have just changed to a Rotary Extreme sleek light kit . . .should of done that the first time.

things like this carried on for the following years then, a couple of months ago I added up the first 4 years . . . somewhare around 12 - 15 thousand bucks!

but I think of it this way . . .every time I drive it . . .its well worth it, well worth it.

Just this week I noticed that the gear box crunches a little in 5th gear . . .oh **** get ready!!!

and the turbos sometimes stutter when I accelerate hard....but . . . its worth it

now It has become more of a hobby than a worry, buy an additional piece of **** and just plan on enjoying the rx7 hobby and crowd that go with it.

Drive one . . .Drive one HARD . . .its all worth it!

If you buy one . . .get a good mechanic, I just moved to Atlanta area 6 months ago and have been really searching hard for someone, im not willing to just give my baby to anybody that says they can work on it . . .( and Im still looking)

the car started to overheat so I had it towed to the local advertised mazda specialist, this guy actually told me "the head gasket has probably blown", I had it towed out of the garage and took it else where!
