So how are these cars so quick? I heard the motor only displaces something like 1.3 liters? I'm just trying to learn here. I have respect for any fast car.

because there are no pistons, rotaries have better rotating motion in my opinion, as well as very low loss through the drivetrain. also, the turbo(s) help a lot. if you think about it any boosted car with the same combination of low loss, high rpms etc etc would have close to the same result.

imagine an s2000 with a big turbo. the car weighs nothing, displaces nothing and runs over 10psi of boost. it would give you close to the same result.

that pretty much covers it. my FD weighs in at 2844 and pushes well over the stock 255hp (butt dyno, no real proof). you take that same 255+ hp and put it in a Camaro (dunno the weight, but it's gotta be heavier) and you're losing the primary advantage the RX7's have - Power to weight ratio.

Yup. I'd think it has to do with the power to weight ratio.

My car is only moderately modded (intake, full exhaust, ecu) and dynos 286rwhp. Add in the fact that it's only 2800 lbs and running 340rwhp is a FMIC and 4 lbs of boost away... 340rwhp and 2800 lbs can turn an 11.9 with a good driver & tires.
