My motor is going to need a rebuild soon and since it's still running, I want to have alot of opinions on how much i should be looking at to have my motor rebuild while it's still running. it should be alot cheaper than a blown motor but by how much. What should i be looking at? and does anyone know of a good place down here in Miami?

Thx,Chris

look into CLR motorsports.

the only price difference is you haven't thrown an apex seal at your turbo(s). if you did, you'd be replace a housing and a rotor and a turbo(s).

to rebuild a running engine yourself would probably be ~$750 in seals and gaskets.

so do you think someone asking for 3k to rebuild the motor is way too much? when it's not even blown

No, the price is fine just keep in mind that's the starting point. New housing if need are $700 a each. There are a host of things that may need to be replaced. My rebuild started with a $2800 rebuild parts and labor. After inspection I need a rotot housing, turbos, 5 other internal parts related to fuel or oil and new primary injectors. The cost was more than twice what I was expecting as result I skipped the street port and PFC. Oddly enough I got the PFC right after break in should have sucked it up and got the street port.

Anyway my point is until you tire it down you wont know how much it will cost.

I wouldn't do a reman myself becuase I would want to know the status of the internal parts. Besides $2800 plus installation ($500) isn't cheap either. Not trying to scare you but rather prepare you. They pit can be pretty deep.

I don't know what your pricing on parts is like there, but that sounds like alot for a build where you might not even have to have the housings replaced. Have you checked out pricing on all parts required?

blaze08 08-23-2005 10:45 AM

how much do you guys think in parts? labor must be where i'm paying the most then.

dohc_vtec_eg 08-23-2005 11:07 PM

its not blown, but that doesnt really play a factor. its goin to blow anyways right? broke o-ring or apex seal its goin to go. either way they have to do the same job. replace the seals, sand down the houseing or get a new one, polish the ports.

**edit**

and they ahve to get 2 rotors and a new shaft maybe even do teh vacum lines again. Rotary extreme does rebiulds for like 6 g's so 3 isnt bad. i paid alot for mine too

blaze08 08-24-2005 08:38 AM

i know for sure it's 750 in seals and gaskets..

you could also try rotaryresurrection.com kevin landers has been around doing budget type rebuilds for a while and people seem satisfied with his work.
