I just got this car. It is my first rotary so I do not know what to expect. It is also my first manual so I have never installed a clutch. Does anyone know where I can find a good walkthrough or if you could give me tips. Thanks https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

1. Jack up the car and support it.

2. Support the tranny with and transmission jack.

3. Take off the 2 "view" plates, pull the throwout bearing fork towards the rear of the car, and use a long flathead screwdriver to disconnect the clip that connect to the throwout bearing.

4. Undo all the tranny bolts, tranny mount bolts, take out the Y-bar, unbolt the exhuast from the downpipe so you can shove it outta the way, take out the driveshaft...but don't forget to drain the tranny fluid first.

5. Get a flywheel stopper, hook it up and take off the flywheel.

6. Get a 2 - 1/16th Socket and a huge ass breaker bar, i use a 1-inch breaker bar that is 4 ft. long (it's on their at 450ft.lbs / plus loctite).

7. Take off the flywheel, i suggest using a LARGE metal chizzle with a blow hammer to knock it out while turning the flywheel to loosen it equally across all sides (Be careful, it'll hurt if it falls on you!).

8. Get the flywheel resurfaced.

9. Stick it back in the car, reinstall the new clutch, new pressure plate, new pilot bearing, and new throwout bearing.

10. And then just put the rest of the parts back in in the order you took them out.

Oh, i forgot, you need to take out your console also.

To do this...

1. Undo shift knob

2. Pop out console

3. Undo Shifter boot, and then undo the shifter plate.

Install is reverse!

And you'll also need to take out your starter. just remember to remove the battery first, or else you'll see nice blue sparks everywhere!!!!!

Damn....Thanks. Interrested in writing a haynes manual. I just found out they dont make them for the fd! :squint:

Hmmm... that's not a bad idea. I wonder what they'll pay me? Probably 3% of every book sold. 30,000 x 16.99 x .03 = $15,291!!! Everyone who sees the haynes manual buy it or else

one more question....how do I lift the car? Wheel ramps? Jack? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

Use a jack and support it with jack stands or if you have access to a lift use that.

There is also some wiring that connnects to the tranny. You also want to support the engine before you unbolt the power plant frame. Support the rear diff also.

You can download a free workshop manual here https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I believe Mazdatrix sells the book version for around $75. Good luck with the car.
