The car has been sitting so long the battery died on me. I don't have any jumper cables so i'm thinking about trying to give it a push and pop the clutch. But need to make sure my old lady can get me going fast enough. I know on the mini I can push it myself, hop in, and take right off. But i'm not sure on the 7.

Shouldn't really be that tough, unless of course she's got no muscles, then you might want to let her just pop the clutch fer ya.

Depends. Mine wouldn't restart coasting at 35 mph!! Booster cables are too cheap for you to try messing around with a bumpstart. Good to have anyway.
Buddy in the car club started his Prelude by releasing the parking brake in the parking lot. He was rolling at maybe 3 mph https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png Nice that you want the old lady to do the pushing!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif |
Gotta keep her in shape I guess..
|
Well as long as I don't need to be going 35mph, I should be fine. There is a slight downhill grade out here where i'm at, but its not that long. The lights still come on inside the car so there is some juice there, it just won't turn over.
She's afraid of the car, which is why she'll be pushing. I can just see her popping the clutch and doing a burnout into a tree or over the curb. |

What happens when you get down the road and it still doesn't start??? Jumper cables might be a good idea...

My old FC had to be roll-started ALL the time when it was hot because it flooded every time I turned it off https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png I got very used to parking on hills!
You only had to be going at about a fast walking pace and pop the clutch! Make sure the ignition is ON obviously! It was less brutal on the drivetrain to get going faster and start it in 2nd gear... you just get up more momentum and then instead of POPPING it, you let it out kinda medium-fast and it starts up. Don't push on any metal that will bend or parts that will break... you might not realize it but you're putting a lot of force on a car to get it rolling if the ground is flat. Brian |
Ok, tried the pushing. Didn't work, it was too hard for me to push up the slope, let along get it back if it didn't start. So just got back from wally world, decided to get a battery charger instead of jumper cables.
|
mine push starts easily..........all my cars did
|
Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if it did push start easy, but I was struggling trying to move the car into position, so I went to plan B.
|
I would also like to add how surprised I was to see so many people at wal-mart at 2am. Back in wilmington there would be no one in wally world this time of night.
|
curiousity: how do you push start a car? push -> drop clutch -> vrooom?
any details in there? |
Hey Foopy, call yourself a rotor freak and don't know how to push start a car?
It just doesn't make sense! Push, clutch in, in gear, ignition on, drop clutch and hopefully she goes. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif |
Well the beast runs again after a few hours of charging.
|
make sure you have it in second gear
it can be done in other gears also.... cuz mine has started before in reverse and first....... but second gear is the easiest. one more thing, make sure that its now in gear while she's pushing the car |
