Sounds frivolous, I know, with all the engine/tranny tech. stuff in this forum, to be inquiring about the sound system...

In any event, the Bose is dying. Currently 3 of 5 self-amped speakers actually work. Bose will repair them for surprisingly little money (compared with replacement parts from Mazda, what a shock...) The other option is to replace entire system with something more...in step with current stereo technology. But Circuit City, for example, informs me that due to the esoteric/eccentric nature of Bose, the whole system (car) would need to be rewired. Has anyone done this or heard of such a thing...?

I ripped out my bose system becouse it was crap!!. Here's the horror story of what it involves....

First yes you will have to run all new wires for the speakers through the whole car WHICH IS A TOTAL BITCH

Second when you wire up the new radio, you have to figure what wires to connect to to get the power antenna to work properly, Another Bitch.

Third, the Bose system uses these "pod" type things in the door which no aftermarket speaker will fit into. You will either havce to find the brackets from a non-bose car, get them from the dealer, or modify the bose pods to fit your new speakers. Bitch#3!

Fourth, Becouse you have the bose system, where you should have speaker grilles behing you on the side pillars you have stupid storage pockets, again you must find the grills/mounts from a non-bose car, or buy them from the dealer, bitch#4

I redid my whole car and it took 1 weekend, it really was'nt hard for me, but I've been installing custom stereos for 15 years.

If you have the time, patience, and some electrical skill you can do it your self, If not bring it to a professional stereo shop, they are the only ones that can, and will take the time to do everything correctly. Any of those highway stores only understand take one out, put one in concept!

You can see in my pic there on the left, that I just started my trunk.

A rundown of my system. Pioneer Premier CD unit, Kove audio 6.5" components with flush mount tweeters in the doors. 3 JL Audio 10" subwoofers in the trunk. A soundstream EQ, Soundstream x-over. Soundstream Picasso pushing out 250 watts for the mids and highs, and a SoundStream 10.0 pushing out 1000 watts into the subs https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

turbovr6,

Man, you're new system is awesome to say the least! I truly do appreciate your elaborating on the hell one must endure to completely replace the existing system, especially since my talents lie elsewhere and I will probably be selling the vehicle later this year.

Many thanks for your detailed response (I guess the guys from CC were on the level...)

RE:turbovr6 - I'm looing at your subs.

Man are you looking to blow your ears out?!?!? Thats crazy!

I had to hunt down a junk yard with a set of of non-bose enclusures myself. The wiring wasn't too bad (my friend did it. hehehe). Anyways, here is a run down of my system (Silver 94 Touring)

Panasonic SH99 In-dash CD/MP3 receiver,

Infinity Kappa 6 1/2 seperated with tweeters flush mounted.

Nothing in the rears...

1 - 10" Infinity Kappa sub... Sealed box (inversely mounted because my measurements were off a bit and I didn't feel like building another one, heheh)

All powered off a Rockerford Fausgate 4x50 amp (I think model 200.4?)

I found that my one sub was enough in the small hatch... U crazy man.

Check it out here..
