Hey all
My fd has come back from being rebuilt and i now want to single turbo it. I've been trawling around the internet and decided on either a garrett gt35r, gt4088 or a to4z was wondering if any one has any of these and if so what are they like, many thanks |
how much power are you looking for ? where and how do you drive the car. those are very important factors when deciding

that's what banzai did for my set up. it's a GT35R/40 hybrid. she spools quick and has a torque line smooth as butter. go to their site banzai-racing.com and click the dyno gallery link to check out builds they've done that tell everything that's in the car and you can get a basic comparisson with the dyno sheet for a car that closely matches yours |

Exactly. I would ditch the Gt4088 Option. Run either the Gt35R or a To4Z. Either one is good to 450rwhp, and the Z is good for an easy 500rwhp. Here is a GT35R hybrid we offer, check out the dyno results https://www.nopistons.com/forums/top...4-gt3574-dyno/ |
Hey
Thanks for the comment i think im gunna go with to4z just have to decide on the a/r which do you think is better .84 or 1.00? Cheers |
what's it going to be driven for? the higher the a/r, generally the longer it takes to spool up.
|
It is mostly goin to be used for fast street mostly may track or 1/4 mile it sometime in the future but only as a one off when at car shows etc.
|
Damn fine looking engine bay poorguy.
I sure do envy the simplicity and room you single guys have. |
@ratty, i'd stay with the .84 just so you get an earlier spool unless your really plan on running high boost.
@signal, thanks man, being able to get rid of so many vacuum controls makes a world of difference for the looks of the engine, as well as making it easier to access for maintenance lol. after i destroyed 2 sets of stock twins i'd had enough of them lol |
.84 is too small for that large of a compressor( 66mm). I always run a 1.15 with those...
|
i have a greddy t-78 and I have no complaints.
|
Ive got a gt3571r it has plenty power when boosting 24 psi on c16 for track day and 10 psi with pump gas for a quick street car

What T4 config would eveyone recomend for a sand car?
I have a S5 that I will rebuilding in couple of years, but would like to put an aftermarket turbo on and get rid of the old stock one. |
i would ask 1revvin7, he seems to be our turbo guru and has a massive selection of parts to make hybrids

I would highly suggest EFI, unless you are a carb guru. I usually suggest our P trim Gt35R for sandrail. Here is a link below of V1/V2 compressor mated to a 1.24 T4 P trim turbine wheel. You cannot even cruise and be below 5psi in this car, 20psi is in an instant, and its retarded fast. If it was swapped to the P trim Gt35R it would be up another 50rwhp. 540rwho is about the max on this turbo setup. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/top...-13b-sandrail/ |

http://www.nopistons...o-13b-sandrail/ Mine is a stock 13B S5, Injected, Tec3 Computer. The exhaust manifold is cracked. All the headers I have found have provision for external wastegate, so I might as well put a better turbo on. Im not sure if I can use the stock turbo on the aftermarket headers, $$ is tight right now, what do you get for your recomended Turbo? I think with the stock turbo I am around 7 PSI, and the car is really fast, some day I would like to get the motor rebuilt with a street port... The guy that I bought the car from removed the intercooler, so I am going to install one while the motor is out. Just went to your site... Your in AZ. NICE Im out in Tonopah (West of Buckeye), do you do dyno runs and tuning of Rotary's running Tec3's? |
What about this one?
gt35 turbo charger .63ar Intake :4 inch Outlet: 2.5 inch Compressor trim: .70 ar Compressor Wheel diameter: 57.36 /81.87 Turbine wheel diameter : 57.50 /73.60 Exhaust trim: .63ar Turbine flange type: t3 flange Downpipe flange type : 4 bolt downpipe flange Cooling type: oil cooled only Twin scroll turbine housing |
Is that an ebay turbo? GT35R(s) are all ball bearing, and oil and water cooled. Never available oil cooled only.
Turbine a/r is too small, and you should use a T4 footprint, not T3. However if you manifold is a T3, then you will have to run a T3 turbine housing. Stock turbo will not bolt to an aftermarket turbo manifold. We are a garrett dealer, I can set you up with a good turbo. What is your budget? We could put on an older To4E, they are generally $800... And yes I do a lot of rotary tuning. Just give our shop a call... |

Ya its an E-Bay Turbo. $800 is more than I have right now, but do understand that you get what you pay for... so I may put everything back together and save for a turbo. I the car was built with NO intercooler, the guy even took off the stock one... so Im investing in that right now, or I would bring the car down for the Garrett, but I dont see doing anything more without an intercooler... My Exhaust Manifold is cracked and a friend is going to give me a T4 header... for a couple of hundered bucks. I was thinking about making an adapter for the stock HT18S-2S Turbo to get me buy. With a Garrett I would have a Turbo for Life... |
Intercooler Core Size 24x7.5x3 OR 24x10x3... 30" overall length
Opinions? |
IC sounds fine. Gotta remember its usually pretty cold out where you are, so it doesn't have to be a huge unit. I usually put fans on them however.
What is wrong with your current turbo? Why are you looking for an upgrade? Don't do the Ebay unit, they fail a lot and I have seen them take an engine out when they go out. Not worth the risk |

Not worth the risk Nothing is wrong with the turbo, the exhaust manifold is cracked in 2 places at one of the ports. I was looking for a replacment and I could only find headers with T4 Mounting and external wastegate. I could block off the wastegate port and make an adapter for my turbo, I think... This is why I was inquiring about a turbo. The car runs pretty strong the way it is now, I think the computer needs some tweeking in the tune, and it does not have an intercooler. As far as fans, I was going to mount the IC infront of my Radiator, and add an oil cooler. Cold out here! Tonopah, AZ? really.... its cooler at night than phoenix but cooler out here? ummmm NOT https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif I WISH |
