Hey guys, I was thinking and came to a decent idea. A while back now I sold my FD as you may know. I miss many things about it, I do have a 05 G35 coupe but it surely does not match up to the FD. So I know I will have an FD again. To prepare for this I am thinking I could get a motor and start the rebuild now. If I do that I can have a nice, well equipt, 13B waiting for the car when I am readly to buy. Let me know what you think and also where I can get a stock rotary for a decent price. I prefer to get one that is not modded so I can start from scratch. I will be checking ebay for some decent deals. I am open to all options.



Turbo Ideas? Twin or Single?

i think id be looking for a jdm used motor, or something. that gives you all the intakes and stuff. id do a small single turbo, but thats optional

rotaryshack.com seems to have good prices. not sure about the customer service part though. im sure somebody else has bought a motor from them.



but that's actually a decent idea man. so if something where to happen, you would just have a motor to sale, not an entire car, and you would not lose as much money if you had to sale it.

I personally think its worth buying good running FD... even though I bought a blown FD.. but only because I had so many engine laying around.



I say you should consider buyong one running before deciding to build an engine for a car you don't have yet.

i agree with phil, get a good running car and have the extra money incase bad things happen.

Thats not a bad Idea to save up some money to make sure the car can be worked on when I have it.



I was thinking that the motor could be sold even if I didn't get the car, not sure if I would get the money back out of it though. I would be a fun project overall I think. Too bad I do not have my FD anymore and now I really want one again.

I'd look into getting a remanufactured motor. I know some places like to start builds with them as everything is already in spec, and it's ready to get ported and rock. I got quoted 2300$+ shipping for my S4 TII motor, so I assume the FD motor would be a little more. They come with a warranty... but I'd assume yours wouldn't be covered once you do port work and what not.



I'm personally scared to death of JDM motors. I'd much rather pay out the money once for something I know is good. Everyone I see says to contact Ray Crowe and Malloy Mazda in Virginia for a Mazda reman. That's what I did and he told me I'll have new rotor housings and I can get it within a week. That's the route i'm going.

I think the idea of building a motor for a car would be the best idea provided you know you are going to buy the car. its not to hard to find an fd with a blown motor and someone who just doesn't want to deal with it. peace of mind is a big deal to me, so I like to know what my motor has been through start to finish rather than trust somebody who says its sturdy as a rock.
