My gearbox is 335,000 km old now (about 210,000 miles!) and is making a few noises. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

When accelerating in 1st, 2nd. 3rd and 4th gears below 2500rpm, the box makes a rattling/chattering type noise. Above this and the noise disappears, and on light load the noise isn't there either.

I am about to rebuild the motor (done it before) but never done a gearbox- anyone got any ideas as to whether it's worth it and what might be the suspect bits? (I can get a "low mileage" jap box for $700 aussie).

I was thinking mainshaft bearings (and possibly input shaft bearings as it also makes a chattering noise at idle in neutral with clutch out but not with clutch in).

Now let's see how many replies get posted with "drive it above 2500rpm!"..... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

Yeah, but I've got all the running gear out anyway, and I thought if it's easy..... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

the r box is kinda hard. you need patience and some special tools.

those noises sound like normal wear, when its louder than the radio its time to fix it
