I just bought my car this past weekend and I have been driving it so much I am almost on empty. I look at how many miles I have driven and it really isn't much. I think I am averaging about 15 mpg. Is that good? I sounds crumby too me. Is their anything I can do to make it better. I read somewhere on the site that adding an ignition box might help a little. Can someone help me! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

Don't push so hard with your right foot.

I'm in the 12 neighborhood, then again, I have a freakin anvil for a foot, and my car runs rich and boosts to 15 psi.

Joe Flo 12-18-2002 12:01 AM

My car is slightly modded with the usuals. I was just wondering if you could improve it. I guess what I want is what J9fd3s is getting. 16-17 range. Will a ignition box help? What will??

shift7 12-18-2002 04:51 AM

an ignition box will help get a little better gas mileage, 1 city, 2 highway usually.

vudoodoodoo 12-18-2002 06:17 AM

15-ish... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/blackeye.gif

Pulling the rotary and putting in a nice VW turbo-diesel will help the gas mileage. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Just fill 'er up and drive! Fifteen is about right. Guzzling gas is what all good Americans do!

rx7trix 12-18-2002 09:20 AM

I get 12-15

ZeroBanger 12-18-2002 09:32 AM

I get 25 on my way back from reno (with cruise control).

I found that if I drive normal (semi heavy foot) I get about 15 MPG. If I drive like a granny and dont hit boost, keep a steady foot and shift on or before 3K rpm I get 18 to 19 MPG in the city.

vosko 12-18-2002 09:58 AM

i'm usually around 10MPG. i love hearing that wastegate open up https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

nmo93 12-18-2002 11:08 AM

i get about 15mpg when i put in the pettit ecu. before that when my car just had the intake/exhaust i was getting about 16.5

the trick is to use the quirks of the ecu to your advantage. outside of closed loop when the ecu uses the o2 sensor it runs really super rich, so you must drive the car so it runs on the o2 sensor as much as you can.

the o2 sensor is active from 1500-3200rpm and under 1psi of boost, if you can maximise your time in this area your mileage will get a lot better

I don't even pay attention to the mileage... I just fill when needed. With a nice 4-6oz. of premix.

15 to 18 depending on how much I boost. You're in in the ball park. Have fun, don't worry about it. Tom

The more gas be burn, the happier the guy behind us is. Literally.

Im the same - less the premix. Who cares about mileage. If ya want economy buy a honda civic.

One thing people always say when they meet my FD is "I bet that sucks the juice"

....well yeah of course it does, but it makes lots of power and theres no such thing as a free lunch https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Leetheslacker 12-18-2002 08:24 PM

My school gives free lunches to poor people? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

Joe Flo 12-18-2002 08:32 PM

Lee are you getting free lunches?

Figure after the car....the gas....and no telling whatelse.

Hell maybe I need free lunches!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

Leetheslacker 12-18-2002 08:37 PM

Nah i dont get free lunches.

7mech 12-18-2002 08:50 PM

For those of you who don't pay attention to your gas mileage, you better start. The gas mileage can tell you alot about how your car is running. If you are numbers lower than what you usually get then there may be a problem with your car. If the numbers stay the same or improve then your car is most likely running right. So word of advice keep an I on your gas mileage. The exception being when you change your driving style(ie. racing or driving like granny).

Tom93R1 12-18-2002 09:44 PM

I usually fill up at the 200 mile mark, put in about 13 gallons. That puts me at about 15mpg in the city. On the open road I usually cruise 80-85 and get about 23.

amp 12-18-2002 10:25 PM

ive found fds to have an inaccurate fuel gauge...

even after topping off....needle falls below the F hash mark..

Joe Flo 12-18-2002 10:27 PM

I think I found a solution!! I just bought the car and it has had all the fill-ups listed since 99. They just don't look right but I think amp might be right. The needle looks like it moves to fast on mine. Maybe I am doing better then15! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif
