I have read that in some cases, under hard acceleration, the insufficient oil is injected to lubricate the apex seals. Mazda addressed this matter in the 1999 version by modifying the ducts used for injecting the oil. Pettit Racing recommends the use of a fuel lubricant, 'Protek R' which is added to the gas tank. The theory is that the Protek will supplement the injected oil supply and keep the apex seals properly lubricated at all times. Has anyone got any more knowledge in this area that they would be willing to pass along to us less enlightened? Does adding a fuel lubricant make sense? Must it be Protek R or are there cheaper (but effective) alternatives? For instance, can a good quality 2 stroke engine oil do the same job???

Any good TC-W3 certified 2 cycle oil will do just fine. If you're still using the stock oil metering system then 4 ounces per tank will be enough.

The stock oil injectors don't do the greatest job getting oil to the entire surface of the housing. The 2 cycle oil in the gas works better.

Okay ACE, here's a quick question. I've been adding appx. 10 to 12 ounces of 2 stroke oil into the gas tank along with a higher oil metering rate(PFC Datalogit can raise/lower this amount). Will this have any adverse affects on HP? Any adverse affects on anything?

The 2 cycle oil will lower the octane of the gasoline, by how much I'm not sure. If you're still running the stock oil injection system I would stick with the 1 oz./4 gallons rule.

Bump it down gradually just in case you're worried about making such an abrupt change.

I've been running pennzoil 2 stroke for about 6 months now. The only adverse affects I see are that I smoke real bad at times and can smell the "burning oil" smell coming from the exhaust. Now that I've just used ONLY stock oil metering, it seems as if the smell is gone. I've made it a habit to check my oil a lot more however since I've got it raised higher than stock. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png
