I was replacing the black plastic piece you see here and when i took out the bolt that holds it in, the black pokey thing that is responsible for holding the fuel door closed retracted back into the body.

twinturboteddy 02-10-2003 11:19 PM

Anyone have ANY idea how I can pull that sucker out?

Joe Flo 02-10-2003 11:22 PM

the bolt metal? Try the little magnet pole thingy. Its only like $2 at autozone.

Joe Flo 02-10-2003 11:23 PM

Oh...sorry its late and didn't understand the post.

Can you fit anything in their?

papasmurf 02-10-2003 11:30 PM

if it fell INSIDE the fuel system i cant think of anything except to dismantle it and drain the tank, if im an idiot which is mostly true, you should be able to get it out with a SMALL tip screwdriver ( the ones that are bent 90 degrees on the tip ) sears should have em.

Joe Flo 02-10-2003 11:36 PM

OKay......elaborate....What fell in plastic part or metal part? I dont think it fell in the fuel tank. DID it? Explain

Crashunit 02-10-2003 11:36 PM

FikseRxSeven 02-11-2003 12:16 AM

hopefully its not small enough to clog anything in its way................. i was gunna suggest a lil net thing..... but i dont know how you're gunna get it in there

twinturboteddy 02-11-2003 12:42 AM

No nothing fell in the fuel tank.

If you look at your fuel door you'll see a black pen size tip that retracts on a spring, that's the mechanism responsible for holding yoru door closed.

That's the part that retracted itself into the car.

Well i just spent a solid hour and a half ripping the rear interior out and fixed it!!!!

Mazdabation 02-11-2003 05:25 AM

Thats good to hear.....I knew what you were talking about from the start, but had no clue on how to help you out.

Was it easy to get at once you had the rear interior panels off?

teddy, the same thing happened to me when i was trying to adjust mine, cause it would stick in, and the door would not close for 3-4 days after i gto gas...

any way, the only thing you can do is be patient and get a coat hanger, and put a piece of DUM-DUM on it. the **** that it like tar on a sheet, and used to fill small air holes. it worked for me, but took like 30 minutes.....and try not to cuss to hard.....the car can hear you!!
