Very stupid question, but I have to ask, what is the fuel delivery system on a FD? I'm thinking mechanical fuel injection but not sure. Thank you for your patience (very stupid question.)

Anybody? I know someone has the awnser to this question.

electronic FI
|
Electronic fuel injection
Staged injection Side feed injectors 550cc primary injectors 850cc secondary injectors Fuel pump->fuel filter->fuel pulsation->primary rail->secondary rail->fuel pressure regulator->gas tank |
^nice!

Well, are the injectors the same with piston engines (timed how long to be open for), because I thought that rotary engines needed a constant flow of fuel and air. Am I right? So I'm basiclly asking do thy stay open all the time?
|
same as a standard piston engine injector.

Here's a good description of the RX7 Fuel System
|
Oh. Cool. So it uses only the map sensor to get it's fuel readings. Is this right or does it have a maf sensor too?

No - it uses any number of sensors (air temp, engine temp, atmospheric pressure, O2. etc) to dermine which fuel "MAP" (a graph) to use. The MAP "sensor" tells it Manifold & Atmospheric Pressure. |
The external systems are just the same as a pistons engine. There may be some small diffrences Im not thinking of but for the most part there is no diffrence.

No, I knew that. I mentioned the MAP sensor (Manifold Absolute Pressure) because some systems use one or the other or even both. I was asking does the system use a maf (Mass Air Flow) sensor? |
I also wanted to know if I could get a Stand-alone from a piston engine and put it into this car. (if it supports the type of injectors. sensors etc.)
|
Yup, Haltech, MoTec, and Microtech (the common rotary ECUs) all can work on piston motors and rotary.
The rx7s stock use a maf but when switching to an aftermarket ECU its not nessisary. |

The FCs use a MAF sensor, the FDs only use a MAP sensor. |
