I recently sold my 1st gen in hopes of purchasing a 3rd (FD). But as much as i hate to admit it will be my only source of transportation. What is the life span of a 13b-REW? With some mods (porting, lil more boost, and a slighty larger turbo with ecu and necessary fuel upgrades)? Also in favor of ditching the stock twin turbo what size single turbo would give the same performance as the twins?

Thanks alot for your help guys

i daily drive my fd...well that is until i decided to go single and now as i near completion i will probably daily drive it again. my car's previous owner used it for a daily driver also. i think it will be fine as long as you take car of your car. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif the car was totally stock when i got it and it had a rebuild at 96k on both the turbos and the engine.

i would daily drive it if i had one. regardless of mods

i used mine as a regular car and i didn't really have problems, once i got the car dialed in

the modded FD is daily driven...

as long as there is no precipitation ....

9BASE3 12-10-2002 04:15 PM

Mine was daily for a year. With a decent handful of mods. Rarely run hard though.

works2r 12-10-2002 04:17 PM

Mine is not daily driven, although it could be..

except when it either A) Rains, B) Snows, C) Hails, D) basically any precipitation...

I store mine during the winter. With the reliability mods, you should be fine. A single turbo is better, reliability-wise, is better than the stock twins. plus it's more power, and that's always a plus https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

but if you beat on any car, no matter if it's an RX-7 or a Yugo, you're going to eventually run into problems.

Just take it easy on her, and she won't give you any grief

thanks guys for the responses, any idea on what size single turbo that is good on p[ower with lil lag for the 1.3 ?

9BASE3 12-11-2002 09:19 AM

Take a look in the single turbo section. Theres a good bit of info there. For a daily driver, right?

Hmm, a single turbo FD for a daily driver? Now that would add some fun to the monring commute. I think I'd be really tempted to get just rid of the daily ride and just dump that money in my FD if only I didn't live in Michigan.

i daily drive mine... no probs... just make sure you change your oil and all that other good stuff on time.!.

Ben93rx7 12-11-2002 11:33 AM

Mine isnt a daily just do to the fact that I would go broke in gas..... I LOVE to drive the car but have to drive halfway across the city for school and halfway back for work, then to my friends ALL the way across town, etc. So I daily drive a Honda CRX that gets bout 35-40 mpg :bigok:

Get a jacobs ignition box you'll get an extra mile or two per gallon. Apex makes a great one single turbo for daily driving. Get The AEM ECU to tune your car for the different fuel curve that you'll get with the single.

And open up the hood once a week to keep on top of it. Also a bigger RAD if you haven't already. Go to Srmotor and the get the Ultamate about $599. but its the best

I daily drive mine, have for a couple years. Of course I have a back up car in case it blows up.
