i think i broke a bearing. made this nice horrible rattling while driving and it would pop out of gear !

the original trans had a bad 5th gear syncro but either a bearing or gear broke in the tranny. that's also in the list of stuff to do after i get the car back. have that trans rebuilt for a spare

i agree. somehow my GTU tranny lasted through all the abuse. even the stock clutch :o
