went to take my car for a drive and it was fine for about a block. went to shift into 1st at the stop sign and it didn't feel right, felt too easy as if there was no resistance at all. figured out that it was stuck in second and no matter how i move the stick it just moves all around like a joystick. i can't feel the gates or even touch the gears. i pulled the shifter and made sure it was in the socket correctly and it still didn't help at all. any of you guys ever experienced this? my thoughts are that the shifter linkage has come loose in some way or another but i hate transmissions and have never torn one apart before so i'm up **** creek without a paddle right now

so after spending the entire weekend ripping everything out from under my car, i finally get to where i'm almost ready to pull off the rear of the trans case so i pull off the top cover to give myself some more clearance. low and behold a freaking roll pin is sticking almost completely out allowing the socket to move around freely without moving the shifter rod. replaced the pin and the trans worked fine. FML. at least it didn't take nearly as long to put driveshaft, ppf, etc all back in as it did to take it out which may be due in part to that point was the only time i was sober through the entire experience lol

Can the roll pin be permanently attached, like saftey wired or other? That seems like something that shouldn't just work its way out.

it's not supposed to, it means previous owner was banging the hell out of the gears and worked the pin out of there. makes me happy about my purchase. i suppose you could weld it in, but then you wouldn't be able to remove the shift rod if it breaks lol
