I hear that it is not a good idea to have a midpipe on a car without upgrading the ECU and that it can cause creep and blow the motor....how true is that? I come from the world of supras...you can put a DP/midpipe/catback on without any issues...just apart of the BPU modding process....

as long as you have a boost controller to keep boost at safe levels you should be fine.

Unfortunately, 3rd gen and Supras are completely different cars.

Problem is that Stock ECU can not compensate fuel at high boost. So when you put a mid pipe and free up the restriction, your turbo will spin freely and it will spike. You could port your wastegate and boost controller to avoid this issue.. or get an upgraded ECU.. but you still need to keep the boost in reasonable level.

herblenny is on the mark with this one. My opinion is that a boost controller is no substitue for the correct fuel system to match the increased flow the mid pipe is going to add. You are playing with fire to run a mid pipe without adjusting the fuel system and the map to compensate for more boost. You can try to keep the boost down to safe levels but if that is your choosen solution then adding the midpipe will be pointless since you won't be able to safetly use the added power. The whole idea is to make the car faster and keep it from blowing up. So approach it right the first time.



Besides we have all seen this before and have read the threads, "Installed midpipe, now car will not idle."
