Sorry guys, I did a search and had trouble finding the info I am looking for.
What is everyone seeing for oil pressure? Based only on the stock oil pressure gauge, I am seeing ~15psi @ idle, fully warmed engine. I am using 10w30 Mobil 1 synthetic. While driving I easily see 60+ psi and the oil pressure moves with rpm fairly consistently. Is this normal? It just sounds awfully low to me. |
it really depends on speed. you can see it go to all the way up when closer to red-line. you usually see around 50 to 60 just cruisin at speed.
|
I see around 4bar at idle about 60psi, I also have the upgrade thermo pelet. The stock gauge is way off, when my greedy shows 4bar the stock isn't even above 2bar.
|
I did a little reading on the thermo pellet - is this considered a must for every car? I don't know that this car has had that service.
|
where are you getting the reading from? The stock gauge?
|
Yes, the stock gauge. My only aftermarket gauges are boost and water temp.
edit: It's not the pressure at speed or cruising that concerns me. It's the ~15psi that I'm seeing at idle that concerns me. OEMs typically don't give you functional gauges.. they're just dummy gauges set to somewhere in the normal range with very little sensitivity other than at the extremes. This oil pressure gauge seems pretty functional to me. |
well, when I had a stock motor, my oil pressure on the stock gauge was set at 0 psi...but on my Defi gauge, it read 30 psi~ both at idle.
Now my stock gauge reads 30 psi~ and my defi gauge reads 60~...at idle. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png |
I typically see a very low reading (~5PSI) on the stock gauge whenever there's a high ambient tempature. Normally, however, I would guess that the 15PSI is where mine sits. The only times I see higher PSI at idle is on fresh oil or immediatly following startup. Also, I've noticed that at the end of the oil's life, the gauge will read very low, I seem to recall ~5PSI position..
