What knd of engine temps do you see.

I have seen as high as 207 degrees when I am Autocrossing. Normal everyday driving I see 195 to 200 during a 90 degree day.

Is 207 too high??

Is there anywhere I can get a 180 degree thermostat? Stock is 190.

Thanks for your input.

up to 215 is safe..... mine runs a consistent 185-190....

Jims5543 03-15-2003 09:51 PM

Thanks Vosko. You can imagine my look of panic when my P.O.S. Autometer guage was reading 215 today.

I quickly hooked up my laptop and read 97° celcius. I double checked my conversion this evening and came up with 207°. These FD engines run pretty hot huh??

BTW - the Autometer temp guage is reading 10° hotter than the real temp.

Lets recap Autometer Temp. Guage off 10°

Autometer Booste guage reads 4 lbs. too high.

Autometer = Crap!

Bump this **********er....

Um... My stupid autometer gauge won't go over 140F. I KNOW that's not right... I have the coolant line to the TB tapped for reading...

What the hell could be going on?

my autometer water temp gauge DIED. i went all DEFI gauges... expensive but worth it.

contrary to popular believe i think the AUTOMETER gauges were made for FD's.... they read to hot and too much boost. this must be a design on purpose so that they dont' actually damage anything https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png heh

jim if your TII is running too hot get higher flowing fans or pull the thermostat.

i agree autometer is crap.... lol

mine was tapped into the thermostat housing and seemed to read correctly

ThirdGenRX7 03-17-2003 10:47 AM

I didn't know they read more boost than was actually there... where'd you find that out?

vosko 03-17-2003 10:48 AM

you look at gauge then you look at haltech or pfc or whatever EMS you have and see the difference https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

what are the normal operating tempatures for a hot summer day and a cold winter day... with the car fully warmed up? is there a huge difference? i need to find a safe cut-off point as this will be my first 7 summer.

cold days my engine temp is about 92 - 96 C fully warmed up.

thanks.
