I've pulled my motor apart and can't see the engine number anywhere.

I thought it was s'posed to be on the front plate, but there's not even a area where there could have been one. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png

This was a core motor from Mazda four years ago...

Help!

Thanks Mike. That's where it's s'posed to be but it aint!

Think I'll go back to the Mazda dealer that installed it (at a cost of $10,000 I might add!) and ask them WTF! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png

Joking?

I bought the car last year and Perth being a real small city I knew of the car beforehand anyway.

The previous owner did most of the miles (km's!) in it before me, and the first motor blew a seal when he over-revved it to 10,000 at 170,000kms. He claimed the rev cut-out wasn't working (but those seals would have been worn out anyway).

He took the car to a large Mazda dealer, where they put in a "new" core motor from Mazda and new turbos too as they were stuffed by the bits of apex seal going through them.

According to the dealer and the previous owner, the motor cost $10,000, the turbos $8000 and the total bill was $26,000 (fitting and other bits). This was about four years ago.

I couldn't believe it when I heard the figure, but apparently that's what he was charged. Having stripped down the motor, I would say that it was a rebuilt unit and not brand new when installed. In good condition, but not quite like other similar mileage motors I've stripped in the past. I'll bet that service department is still having Friday afternoon drinks on that job even today! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif
