Have a 94 FD. New street port, new efini twins, new cat, PFC, Peter Farrell Intercooler/air box. Numbers are way high on emissions. Smog pump works. I have read posts that point to the Air Control Valve. Have also read that the EGR only works at cruise. Is that true? How/ Is there a way I can test the Air Control Valve easily? I have zero O2 at the tailpipe with HCs high and COs high. Is it possible to be getting O2 to the Cat and still experience zero at the tailpipe? Also have excessive carbon at the tailpipe.

Thanks for any help! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

Only suggestions I can make from my experience is to run your car for like 15 minutes before the test and get it up to normal running temps. Also leave the car idling when you wait for the smog test. You can also try that smog test passing fluid they sell at like Wal Mart and what not. Apparently it actually works...

What I am being told is that with zero O2 from the tailpipe, the cat is not getting hot enough because there is not enough oxygen to raise the temps so that it gets to the flashpoint where the cat actually works. How can I test the ACV without taking off the whole intake? I truly believe that something is holding up the oxygen to the cat to keep it too cool to work.

Any suggestions? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/dry.png

I don't really think it will be easy to pass with mods like that though even though it SHOULD. All the emission equiptment is close to 14 years old and you have street porting and stuff done, I think you might just have to replace some of that emissions stuff to pass.

At least its not as bad as my car, i have to wash it after each drive or it will develop a carbon layer on the back, but i do have straight exhaust and a white car so hahahah

I went through this about 7 months ago: find out if there is any way around the emissions testing, i.e. register the car in a zip code that does not require an emission test. Your local dol website will supply this information, and it will save you tons of time and money. then you just need to pay for a po box $35.00/year.

It is a white car and does have soot that constantly builds up. For what I have spent, I would like to know that everything is working right and I am sure the cat is not even working. The numbers are so far off that I feel guilty running it. HCs @ 5X and CO @ 3X. I know for some it is about having it on the road. I don't mind fixing it but nobody around here knows anything about the FDs. The dealer's tech is absolutely ignorant. He loves to throw parts at a problem... turbos when it was a front seal, coolant sensor when the wire from the harness was disconnected, airbag computers when it has a non-connectivity issue.
