Helping a friend finish putting his new motor in. However we're running into a problem.

We put the key in the ignition and turned it to ACC. The only things getting power were the lights, radio, and cigarette lighter. The car beeps when the door is open as well. The boost controller which was installed while the motor was out doesnt get power, and neither does the turbo timer.

Then you turn the key to ON.

everything dies. you hear the solenoid "CLICK" once and it sounds normal, but then the radio shuts off, and cigarette lighter loses power. The PFC almost comes on as youre turning the key from ACC to ON, but it dies right away. We tried to turn the car on but it cranked very slow and was not going to start.

It's almost like there is a disruption in the electrical system, like there is an open wire somewhere shorting everything out, but it seems like an impossible idea. I dont think it would be a grounding issue, because all the grounds were connected.

The only wiring he's done since the motor has been out was the boost controller. He added a whole new fuel system, and went ful non-seq but that's about it. I dont understand what would cause his electrical system to be unresponsive. Any help would be appreciated.

I had a similar problem and it was my ground from block to firewall, I had to change the whole wire and location.

Might also be a dead battery. Same thing happened to me when I had my FD down for a month. It's uncommon for a battery to die if it's only inop for a short time.

or maybe the main fuse in the engine bay connetted to the battery.... that seems to like to let only half the things in the car work when it goes bad

The same things that worked/failed for him are the same things that worked/failed for me. It resolved upon replacement of the battery. Just a hunch.

check all the grounds, or add more grounds.. had the same problem one day but hasn't happened since..

was really weird.
