I'm just curious as to how to tell the difference between and R1 model and a base model RX-7. I know how to distinguish a tourning easy enough. Just curious.

NM I just saw a post on the FAQ board...my bad..

FikseRxSeven 06-03-2005 12:48 AM

R1

2 oil coolers

suede seats

no hatch wiper

front lip chin spoiler

no cruise

base

looks the same as r1 but opposite of most of what i listed above

1 oil cooler, cloth seats, no front spoiler are the easiest giveaway

Aye thanks for the extra input asides from the other post I read after writing this. I was just wondering cause I recenely purchased an RX-7 and wasn't sure if it was an R1 or Base model since it came with awesome beautiful bucket seats and a fat wing on the back. So I guess I'm glad I ended up with a base model since I don't exactly favor squede...and I'm just wondering is that vid in your sig just a random video or you/someone you know? cause that is one bad ass looking drift.

jspecracer7 06-03-2005 03:36 AM

That's a professional Japanese drifter doing that drift. It's an OLD video at that.

Cloth seats = teh best!

Unless it's still in factory trim, you'll find that most have been pretty much made to look or have what ever the owner wanted on them. Even from the dealer you could order a base and have the R-1 chinspoiler and wing installed. The packages just made it easier to select a group of items.

MugenCho 06-05-2005 05:00 AM

True...that's all it really is in the end. What extras you want to come with the car. To bad they didn't offer a 4 Rotor version...hehe

R1 model also has the front strut tower bar.

Yep. I've added cruise to my R1 (poor man's radar detector) and factory fog lights with upgraded bulbs as DRLs. Both were pretty much "plug and play".

The only thing I haven't heard of that often is adding the second oil cooler to a touring.
