Ok my dad and I are out in the garage getting ready to put in a new ACT street strip clutch, problem is we have all the bolts off the bell housing and havn't been able to pull the tranny off the motor. The transmission will turn and wiggle, with probably a 1/2 inch space between motor and bell housing at top and virtually no clearance on bottom. Is this because the motor is sitting more upright than before? Does the tranny need to come straight off? Why wont it budge?

You have to disengage the clutch.

There is a small release collar that you need to push forward towards the front of the car with a long flat head. You can access it from the trans inspection panel. Its a small copper colored collar that goes around the input shaft. Its have teeth on it can't miss it. Push it in. It will click and the teeth will not be visible once you push it in. Then you can drop the trans down.

or jama screw dirver in there and pull around on things... when you try pulling the trans again, it will pull out... i still cant get my clutch off and the trans dropped down

Not a great Idea, If you cannot get the release collar back in then unbolt the Pressure plate from the flywheel.

Thats a pain in the ass. I had to do it once.

ok i see exactly what your talking about. Is it typically hard to push back into the pressure plate? Ive been out there exerting every bit of force possible and it wont budge. Im so damn frustrated, been trying to drop it for the last two hours. Do we need to bolt the tranny back up to the motor for it to budge?

TII777 06-05-2004 04:10 PM

ok im just goin to unbolt the pressure plate from the flywheel through the inspection panel. thanks for the advice, ill let you guys know if we get it off

TII777 06-05-2004 04:30 PM

DAMNIT! ok pressure plate is no longer bolted the the flywheel, and tranny still wont budge! I can pry the bell housing a good inch maybe a little more away from the motor from the bottom, but it just wont pull out, I have my dade pulling as hard as he can from the output side while im pullin and prying on the bell housing with a massive flathead and cat get it to come out more than that inch or so, it turns and everything! Any other suggestiions?
