O.k. While swapping engine here, we inspected the propeller shaft, or driveshaft as I like to call it, and the universal joints are bad. The manual says to replace the whole shaft, now is this necessary? If this is the end of the shaft, who sells drive shafts for this car besides the dealer? I have done some searches and no luck.
Notes: Got the transmission 5th gear thing worked out. Now I have to replace my clutch that I just replaced about 2 years ago. I believe my clutchmaster pressure plate got warped somehow. Big heat mark on just a quarter on my flywheel and pressure plate indicate something is wrong. Clutchmaster says they have 90 day warrenty, who pulls the **** back out before 90 days to inspect everything is cool? Oh well. $450 down the drain I guess. |
Hard to say, if there's not many miles on the propshaft new UJ's should be alright. Some of the guy's building the cars like mine reuse the propshafts from the donor car and on rare occasions they can go bad - my guess is that in the donor car, the UJ's wear a groove so to speak, and once you switch it to the new car you start wearing a new groove - which can lead to problems. This may or may not apply to your car, but personally it's one of those things that I'd like done right just for peace of mind.
