Anyone change one of these? I don't have to remove the entire door panel to change this, do I? And can a locksmith rekey the cylinder to match my current key so i only need one key for door and ignition?

Don't have to remove door panel. Just the little plastic piece by drivers head, two nuts that require a 10mm socket, tilt the door handle surround out and then you have to pop of the switch from the lock cylinder then a little retaining wire and lift out the lock cylinder. You'll have to get a lock smith to set lock cyl to your key or you'll need two keys. Jack

I don't need two keys for my FD is there something different about FD's in the states?

thanks Jack, but i got it. unfortunately i got the retaining wire a little out of shape...even bending it back i don't think it's holding the cylinder in its slot as tightly as it should (ie, if i press the key hard enough from the outside i could probably dislodge the cylinder).

no, i got a replacement lock cylinder from mazda which comes with its own keys...of course the replacement is not keyed to your original car keys so unless you want to have two sets of different keys you need to have the lock cylinder rekeyed so that your originals will work on it.

Ahh gotcha...yeh I was wondering about that.

Let me know if you need that retaining wire. I have a spare I can mail you. Ps you can install the retaining wire where it is supposed to go (key cylinder not installed) make sure the wire is in it's detents, orientate the key cylinder and just push it in till it clicks. Doesn't require any great pressure to seat (if it's lined up properly) That way you don't have to figure out how to get the clip to line up in the notches and remain in the door surround detents.
