I am tearing down my engine to have it rebuilt and was surprised at how the front turbo looked. This is the first time I have attemoted to disassemble an engine, so am I just being paranoid or is it time to have the turbos rebuilt?

is that brown **** oil? if so no.
|
That looks funky...Pretty sure the blades should be just silver instead of brown.
|
The blades look to be in good condition. Color doesn't REALLY matter, unless it's buildup of somesort... Which I suppose could effect the balance and eventually destroy the bearings/shaft. If there is minimal wheel play (in and out should be none or VERY little) and they spin freely, I say they are good to go.

I believe it is oil.
To my knowledge these are the original turbos with 120,000 miles. With them having that many miles, would it be beneficial to have them rebuilt while I have them off? |

BTW if you saw this beast running and it looked like this https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/v2.gif when you weren't launching the brown stains are probably burnt on oil. |
yea you need to check the end play. looks mean nada. base is right the color is cool if they are in spec but at 120,000 i doubt it unless they were rebuilt
|
Yeah, I just hit 100,000 mlies and I need to repace my turbos so I wouold recomend getting them rebuilt. The seals are probably leaking and that means you will have oil in your intake and maybe buring oil out the exhuast.
|
Just to be safe I think I will have them rebuilt. Anybody have any recommendations on who to send them to to have them rebuilt?

Definetly time to do something about the turbos, I suggest going single or buying a used set of 99+ twins. BNR is a no no! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png |
I'm not ready to go single yet.
Is JT-Imports the best bet for a set of used 99+ twins? |
i have a set of twins with minimal shaft play up and down, and no shaft play front and back on both turbos. they are about 55k miles, i have had them as my backup but now im gunna go single so i dont need them anymore.....
send me a pm if you need them |
yeh man theya re fine rember theya re getign blasted with about 12 bar of exaust gasses every milly second and they can rev upto 100000 times a minut https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif mines are in worse lookign shape than that but they still run like sweeeetes a shame the engin dont :P
|
If I do go with 99 turbos are there any mods that need to be done for them to work properly? Can you just bolt them on with a '94 ecu?

what prices did you find on the 99 twins? I am getting really pissed about the Guy I bought mine (Stock twins) from he hasn't e-mailed me and Its been 2 weeks and I still haven't recieved them.
|
So far I have only found them used at JT-Imports for $525.95. http://www.jt-imports.com/Mazda_FD_JDM_Parts.htm
New they are quite a bit more. http://www.jt-imports.com/Mazda_FD_JDM_Parts.htm $3100.95 http://66.216.67.51/product.asp?0=220&1=374&3=775 $3050.00 I'm not looking for new right now. I have to get my engine running first. I'm thinking about some used 99 twins from Jason or having them rebuilt for around the same cost. How is cheapturbo.com? Do you get what you pay for? |
cheapturbo primarily handle's single turbo upgrades and rebuilds
