Can anyone confirm with me how to install this.

I understand it that I have to splice the wires into the input wires for the primary coil. Ie.. between the ignitor and the coil.

Looks like I would unfasten the clipped harness from the coil.

Cut the wires. Splice the red and orange from the Hi6 to the wires on the coil side. Then splice the red and white from the Hi6 to the end of the cut wire that leads to the ignitor.

Then hook up the power and the ground wires and put it all back together..

Is that about right?

A picture is worth a thousand words if anyone could oblidge me? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Thanks for any input.

I saved this file, before that site went down. It has all instructions on how to install that ignition.

Determine the mounting location for the Crane unit. Since I have the battery moved to the rear of the car, I choose to mount it where the battery was. Remove the intake elbow from the throttle body. There are four nuts (two on top and two on the bottom) that you remove using a 10mm socket with extender. Remove the throttle body: Unclip the main accelerator cable. If you have cruise control, you can leave cruise accerlator cable attached. Remove the four 12mm nuts holding the throttle body on. Remove the two coolant lines connected to the throttle body and plug them. Unplug the electrical connector on the throttle body. Slide the throttle body off and place it out of the way. Be careful not to kink the cruise control accelerator cable.

The Crane HI-6 only attaches to the leading coil, which fires the two leading plugs. This coil is between the two other coils. Disconnect the plug going to the leading coil. The signal voltage goes into the Crane unit from the harness ignitor side, is amplified to a much higher voltage by the Crane, and then sent back to the coil. Pull out the plug as much as you can so that you have more room to work. This plug should have a yellow wire with a blue stripe and a black wire with a red stripe. Cut the plug so that you have enough room to connect the Crane's wires to each end. It is very tight and will take some patience. It is also possible to remove the small subloom of the main ignition harness to make splicing the wires easier. Connect the Crane as shown in picture. Make sure you strip the protective silver lining from the yellow and red wire far enough so that it will not make contact with anything. You may encounter grounding problems if you don't.

*A few people with newer Crane units have had to hook up the blue wire to the thin red wire coming out of the crane unit. I would try it without the blue wire first. If the car has problems or hesitation at high RPM's then try the blue wire fix. Mount the Crane unit. Cut and cover any unused wires from the Crane unit. Protect the wires from the Crane unit going to the leading coil with protective wire loop and secure it with wire ties appropriately. Replace the throttle body and elbow in the order that you removed them. Start her up, and go for a test drive!
