Hey guys any help is appreciated:
I just purchased a 94 FD and i am hearing a couple wierd noises in the rear. One i am pretty sure is a passenger side wheel bearing. Anyone know how involved it is to change. (I have not done bearings before but i hear you need a press) The second sound is unique in that it is really only audible at stop and go speeds. It is just kind of a clunk when i am on the gass and then does the same thing when i let off the gas. It is fairly quiet but it drives me crazy; any ideas? thought it might be a broken dif mount but i am new to these cars and interested to hear if anyone has hade or encountered this problem. |
is it a light sqeeking sound? maybe coming from the hatch?
|
no i doubt; i already adjusted the hatch piece just in case

is your jack secure?

Clunk could be play in the diff, worn pillow ball joints (is there clunk over bumps?), or loose exhaust cos a hanger has died at the back, and sorry don't know about the wheel bearing never done one on an FD. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

if it moves alot that is bad. S13's don't have PPF's https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

can you define a lot?

I recently had the same clunking noise on stops and starts. It turned out to be my toe link bushings. Jack the rear of the car up. Grab the wheel in a 9 and 3 position and trying pushing on one side while trying to pull on the other side, alternately (jiggle the wheel). If you are able to move the wheel your toe link bushings are probably bad.

sweet thanks guys i will check out most of this today and keep you posted. Also i do see a bit of movement when i am on and off the gas. It is not a lot, in fact very little but i did notice it. Any ideas?
