damn your car is so blue, it has spread to everything within 50ft of it!!! seriously though, car looks good https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Fd3BOOST 02-05-2004 06:58 PM

Car looks good. Greddy 3 row?

Also I like the 99 rims.

To bad they couldn't have made them wider. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Fd3BOOST 02-05-2004 06:59 PM

Oh I see you have that wierd radiator duct mod cut into the lip.

Hows that worked out?

Whats the temp diff?

Mazdabation 02-05-2004 08:36 PM

I love the way FD's look so small and nimble beside SUVs .....

I noticed the lip also, This is a mod? Why not take the normal lip off to put the R1 one on.....or is the air supposed to lift up the lip and into that hole for the IC?

Cool.....looks great

Shawn

There is a duct that runs past the FMIC and over to the rad.

I posted a writeup about my duct design on my webpage.

http://www.carlisiworld.com/ccarlisi/myweb3/photo1.htm

It definately decreased my temps on the highway.

It definately decreased my temps on the highway.

Yea, I wanted to know how much?

I can't imagine you went through all the trouble of making that and not measuring the temp difference..

So how much?

ccarlisi 02-05-2004 09:07 PM

LOL-go to the link!!

EDIT:

-off the website:

"Prior to installing it I was having the same temp problems that everybody else was/is. I had a PWR radiator, 100% water, and the fans set to come on at 88c. It was fine around town but on the highway my temps would still climb into the upper 90s and beyond when I stayed on the boost. With the duct in place I have yet to see a temp over 98c and most of the time they're below 95.

When I fist put it on I took the car to Giant stadium when it was closed for a holiday. My friend (Gotham Racing employee Ihor) and I lapped the access road around the stadium twice then pulled into the main parking lot and did 8 quarter mile runs back and forth.

First we ran the course with the duct sealed off.

The temps got up to 99 before we even finished the second lap. By the third quarter mile run they were over 102 and climbing.

We repeated the same process with the duct unsealed.

Up until the 6th 1/4 run the temps were below 95. On the 7th run they got up to 98 but stopped climbing and dropped back to 97. For the majority of our test the temps with the duct were more than 5 degrees C cooler. "

So you staying under 95, thats decent.

Still why not just go with a SMIC? Heatsoak you say?

I'd sacrifice performance over engine longevity anyday..

Anyway not trying to start that debate just talkin..

See your links page describes nopistons as the place where people go when they get banned from RX7Club.

Not sure that is accurate but if you say so. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

Keep in mind that is when I'm pushing the car hard enough to get under 10mpg on the highway. Gmonsen and I used to commute part of the way home together when we would work late. He has a nasty habit of cruising at triple digits with his 540i. I had to stay in the boost just to keep up with him.

At more sane speeds my water temp holds at 86C.

I don't think I have made that trade off. My coolant temps stay at whatever I set the electric fans to under normal driving conditions and with the duct installed the temps do not run away as they used to under prolonged load.

For me the decision to buy a FM came down to being realistic about my driving habits. As much as I would like to be on the open road the truth is about 90% of my driving is done in the city. I'm not crazy about the length of piping that is necessary for a FMIC, the obnoxious appearance, or the adverse effect it has on airflow to the radiator, but it is the best solution for heat soak.

Not sure that is accurate but if you say so. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif[QUOTE]

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png I did not mean that those are the only people that come here, but rather that nopistons has become a haven for those that get kicked off the other forum for innocently saying nice things about rx7 store competitors that Jason isn't on good terms with (even if this is unknown to the user). https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif Incidentally, I got kicked off the other forum awhile back for posting that I got great service from the vendor I purchased my FMIC from https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/violin.gif

Also, thanks for all the kind words guys. I have to say the pics are extremely flattering of the car. It has it's share of war wounds. You will never see a picture of the rear bumper. I think every driving school in Boston uses my car as a parallel parking obstacle. You can see a small dent that someone put in the hood while parallel parking in the pics above.

Mazdabation 02-06-2004 12:14 AM

Ohhhhh i see the dent........your banned from here!!

LOL

boxrs4sale 02-06-2004 08:39 AM

dents not to bad though.. easily repairable.. car looks really nice though man

Fd3BOOST 02-06-2004 10:02 AM

On your site the front bumper , or was it the lip https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif was cracked badley, how did that happen and i assume that you have replaced the part?
