i just got my car back after having it completely revived, and for that day (thursday) it was running flawlessly - smooth as hell. now when i was checking under the hood yesterday morning, i noticed that the coolant was very low and that neither of the fans were running when i started the engine. now i know that both of the fans were running and my coolant was full on thursday, but i didn't check either on friday, so something may have happened then. anyway, what could be the cause of this? i was doin some heavy boosting on friday (about 3-5 times at wot), so i'm worried that i may have overheated the engine. so how much damage would that do to a brand new engine if the cooling system wasn't working that day?

I don't think the cooling fans come on until after the car warms up... so don't worry if it's not on when you first do a cold start.

As for the low coolant, keep a close eye on it and check it before you drive every time (cold engine obviously). If it keeps losing coolant, you will have to track it down, but it is common for it to look like it's losing it when you do major work on the car and the system doesn't have all the air worked out yet. Keep checking it!

Why do you think you overheated the car?

i thought i might have overheated it because i was working it pretty hard (at wot a few times like i said) on the day before i discovered the problem. so i was just wondering how much load the engine can take without being cooled properly and still not overheat.

i'm probably just being paranoid because this is a brand new engine and turbos with only 4500 original miles on it and i couldn't stand to ruin it already.

the fans dont run unless the engine is hot. just keep track on coolant level, if it uses coolant thats not good

i think i may have solved the problem. i found the main coolant leak and fixed it, and today i saw that the fans were working at one point, so i think i'm all good. thanks for the advice though.

they are right , the fans do not come on until the temp reaches near 182*...give or take a few *.....did the car overheat? or do you not know....??? did you pay attention to the temp guage? if it went up it overheated......if not, you should be ok....

if the car is cold and you crank it up, the fans will not come on....BUT if the ac is on wide open or the heat is all the way up and on, they WILL come on at first start.....mine do...it is just part of the system......also, coolant will register lower when the car is cold as compared to when it is hot....the liquid expands as it gets warmer......that is just physics....
