Coolant buzzer won't go off. I was in a minor fender bender the other day (not my fault) a woman in front of me backed into my car for no reason. I'm not sure if this triggered the sensor but I took it to the dealer and they seem to think it's a faulty coolant level trigger. Any ideas? Mazda saw no signs of internal/external leaks by they way.

As sensors go on FD, the coolant level sensor has to be the cheapest (all plastic except the probe part) and easiest to change. Just drain coolant down to that level and swap them out. I got a new one included with a water pump, so I can't imagine they cost much.

Thanks for the info., where exactly is the sensor located within the cooling system?

Black screw-in sensor (IIRC it has a 12mm hex-head) with a single wire lead on the front of the water-pump/t-stat housing. Just look down from the filler neck.

Also, that sensor plugs into the harness to the left of the alternator. From there the wire goes toward the driver side and connects to another harness just before going under the oil filler. You might verify nothing was disconnected there.

I did just change my plugs, maybe a wire was knocked loose, well I"m taking it to a rotary shop tomorrow morning so I will know for sure by then what is causing it.

Problem fixed, the wire leading to the sensor on the outside of the filler cap was disconnected somehow.

Hey guys, sorry for the necro bump, but I'm having the same problem. I know my coolant level is fine, and there shouldn't be air in the system as I just burped it a few days ago, or rather the shop that it was at did it. If I want to disable the buzzer, can I just ground the wire that goes to the harness? Unplugging it didn't work so I'm assuming that's the only option. I'm fairly positive it's the sensor as the wiring looks fine...I'll be replacing the sensor in a couple days, as soon as the dealer gets the part in. I'm curious as to how it happened though...it was working perfectly until I changed my oil. Can you think of anything that might have caused this, related to the oil change? Seems too coincidental that it stopped working right after an oil change. I thought maybe it was because I spilled some oil down in the area where the coolant temp sensor connects to the harness, but it looks dry. Oh and by the way, I know my coolant level is fine, I check it every day, and constantly monitor water temps, so I'm not in danger of overheating. Well mine was disconnected somehow (which caused the buzzer to stay on) and the shop (PF supercars) saw that it was disconnected so they then re-connected it, haven't had any problems since. I"m not sure exactly where they re-connected it because I wasn't standing right there but I believe it was right near the filler cap.

i had the same problem but it wasn't the sensor it was actually the ast cap. it was slightly dented and allowed air into the system
