Below is a picture that shows my RX7 compressions. They are supposed to be all even spikes & the rear rotor has 2 spikes that are lower. I was just wondering how bad this is. Is it ok to drive the car with out destroying the engine? I am looking into a new engine in the future, but can I limp on this one?

If that seal lets go, you are looking at a much more expensive rebuild.



If you HAVE TO, let it warm up and dont boost at all. But chances are it is going to let loose

Driving on a motor with a chipped or broken apex seal is a no no. Im not sure of your budget but driving the car in this condition will most likely end in damaged rotors and rotor housings. When getting a rebuild these can be very, very expensive. If you want to reuse any parts from the engine I would not suggest driving the car the way it is.

^Righto. It only get's worse. Even driving it easy. I know and have pictures of the seals somewhere to prove it.



Is it terribly hard to start? Hot?



What are the #s for the peaks on those graphs btw?

It starts easy as can be. It runs pretty well too. It idles a little rough from time to time, but other than that the car seems to be fine. I didn't get the numbers for the peaks. I am not so sure if they are chipped or broken though, when I bought the car (in october) the person told me that it had sat for quite sometime. I was under the understanding that the seal can be come compressed onto the rotos from sitting and not spring back out fully??? Does that make any sense. As for the rebuild: The place that rebulds the engines near me (KD Rotary) uses new rotor housings so if it were to let go I mean it was going to be replaced anyways. They already said it would be $4600 to rebuild + things like lines & hoses if they find anything wrong with them. I am actually saving up the cash for the stage 2 streetport engine from rx-7store.net So if this does go, it wouldn't be the WORST thing in the world.............Make anysense?

I might look somewhere else for a motor. Read one of the other posts about one of their motors. In my opinion I wouldn't buy a motor from someone rebuilding them and putting cracked side housing in. Good luck.

Thanks for that link to the post. I am going to do some looking around and see what other options that I have are.

Is there anyway to borescope or see the rotors with disassembling the engine? I am trying to see if the apex seal is infact chipped/broken or just stuck down & not fully sealing.
