Ok, i finished rebuliding my engine and now i have a reoccuring problem. I installed a new clutch and flywheel combo, but now when i bleed the clutch, somehow air will get back into the lines and make it nearly impossible to shift. I can bleed all the air out of the lines and then drive it, maybe for 2 minutes with perfect shifting then it goes to crap again, i have put a cap on the bleeder valve, noticing vacuum under the cap, where else can it be leaking from? the threads? i have no loss of fluid, so i'm puzzled, i never had this problem before the rebulid and now i do... any thoughts? thanks your input is appreciated!

You must have a leak somewhere. I've seen alot of people who leave the slave cylinder attached to the transmission without supporting it from the bottom. That can mess up the clutch hose.

Sounds like the clutch is in backwards to me. Is it real hard to shift but it will go in?

it is not hard to put the disc in the wrong way. I have done it. Oh well. live and learn.

the clutch is in correctly, because it was new and made sure it would go "flywheel side" with the sticker that said "flywheel side"..



I constantly find myself bleeding the clutch because new air will come out and then it will squirt only fluid, and it will shift correctly for about 5 shifts then eventually turn to crap again and become harder to shift. i can put the car in 1st gear and hold the clutch and the car will pull itself forward... a sign of air in the lines from the clutch not fully disengaging.

i concur with jspec. sounds like brake master. my TII did the same thing.......

you need to look really hard at the hose. its also possible that the master/slave is bad too

Also a deformed clutch once it is heated up will act the same. So check for the easy stuff first and then go for the clutch.



How does the pedal feel?

Does the pedal loose its stiffness?

yes the pedal will lose its stiffness after pumping it, and i can find air in the lines...

there are only 3 parts to the hydraulic system. the master, slave, and hose. they are tough to bleed, but once they are bled they stay bled

well a friend is going to come over with a ss braided line and see if that doesn't fix the problem, if it continues, i guess i will replace the master and slave

When my master cylinder started going bad I had similar sypmtoms where the pedal would go dead and then get pressure.

A friend of mine had a similar problem after replacing his tranny. The guys a Rotary Performance told him the slave cylinder needed adjustment. I'm not sure how to adjust it though.

i ordered a new clutch master cylinder, so hopefully this will solve the problem, i'll kick myself in the ass if i also need to order the damn slave.
