im having trouble deciding on an exhaust for my 93 fd, my cars basicaly stock and if i want to make any more power and up the boost it might be a good idea to free up the exhaust flow. moneys not an issue but im just concerned with the size, should i just go all out and get a apexi gt spec or power extreme exhaust, or just go with a 3 in.

I have an HKS Carbon / Ti catback. It sounded great with a downpipe and the stock main cat. Now it is loud as hell and kind of wimpy sounding with a single turbo and midpipe.

I have turned my boost up a tad, and mine flows fine with a 3" i got the

Blitz nur spec exhaust and I love it. sounds great looks great

same great flow for an exhaust 3 times the price.

Racing Beat Dual Tip is what I have. It's pretty quiet and has a low tone. Sounds nice.

I have a JIC stainless steal catback that is on the way. It was for my brother's car, but long story short, we don't have the car anymore. So, we don't need the exhaust and it's for sale. You want it?

tyson, how was the install on the HKS Carbon / Ti catback? i'm thinking of ordering that soon.

TYSON 05-14-2003 08:23 AM

Easy, same as any exhaust I imagine. Unless they don't put the hangers in the right place. Hardest part is moving the rubber hangers from one exhaust to the other.

Keep in mind with a round canister exhaust they hang down a long way. Not so great if you have to get your car on a tow truck.

If I had it to do over, I would have the exhaust made locally using a Borla Sportsman muffler. I may do this yet, anyway. Probably could sell my used for a year HKS for more than it would cost me to have the Borla exhaust made.

if you wanted to go ALL OUT then you need to get the hks FULL titanium exhaust. anyways i have the gt spec and be prepared. its loud. i thought it was loud then i went single turbo and ITS REALLY FREAKING LOUD!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

i'm running a full open 3" exhaust with a racing beat dual tip. i love the way it sounds. if i still had the stock cat in place, it would be a lot quieter, but it's still pretty low at idle/cruise. it really comes to life when you get on the throttle though.

the only other exhaust i've heard in person was the greddy sp catback with dp and mp. it sounds decent at idle and cruise, but i like the racing beat a lot more at moderate-full throttle.

99% of the exhausts have the same or similar flow rates and are not really that different. if you want a quieter exhaust, racing beat sells a nice and quiet dual tip, similar to the m2 cat back.....if you are not really worried about sound, and still have a cat or plan to run a hi-flow cat in lieu of a midpipe, any of the 3" catbacks will suit your need. you must simply make your decision on the style canister that you would prefer....

forgot to add this...

IMO, a 3" exhaust is plenty. the only reason to go any bigger is if you're making/plan on making an outrageous amount of horsepower, like a drag car.

anything over 3" is overkill IMO
