I'm currently running 10w-30 right now. As it gets warmer should I change to a heavier oil? Do any of you do this? If I go heavier, what weight would be ideal. It gets hot here 90's but the humidity is was hurts the most. What do you guys recomend?

10w-30 has a heat rating of over 120 degrees i believe. If where ever you live gets to like , africa hot temps then maybe but 10w-30 usually is always good, look in the owners shop manual they tell you what to use for temp ratings. if you dont have one , I luv my rx-7 will have the free online one.

Yeah, I have the manual. I dunno maybe I'm a little over paranoid. I was thinking of putting in 20w-50 for the summer months, as I will be doing alot of driving. Also fuel is known to thin out the oil. A thin oil+hot days+lots of driving+lots of fuel can = bad. or I could just be an idiot.

being extra careful wouldn't classify someone as a idiot lol, if you drive a lot look at your manual and go for the next temp up oil or so for what you think will suit your driving style. maybe its time to upgrade to R-1 oil cooler setup !

I'm newer and suspect this might bring some flames, but FWIW, I've made the switch to Mobil 1 15-50 for summer. I know, I know, it's synthetic, but I've talked to alot of people whose opinons I respect and done some reading. No one seems to have had any issues with "modern" synthetics. I particularly like the synthetic's ability to stand up to the heat of the turbos and fuel contamination w/o breaking down. Just my .02

At any rate, the 20W-50 won't hurt anything, so if it'll put your mind at ease go ahead an do it. Also, changing with the seasons gets you into the habit of changing the oil every three months, which for the daily driver for me works out to about 2500-3000 miles and is when I'm due for a change anyway. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

How about Royal Purple or Red Line in an FD?

tampaFD 05-24-2004 10:45 PM

on a long trip tampa to miami over the aligator Race alley with syn 10-30 in the late winter i saw my oil press drop , like 10-14 lbs, during long hard run. the press never went under 55-60 at 3,000 but it dropped off from the begining of the trip. now that it is 90+ deg out i am running 20-50. 10-30 is prob fine but hell on a fd anything that can give you piece of mind is prob worth it
