I am looking to purchase a FD in the very near future.

The one I am currently looking at is a 93 R1 with < 50,000 miles on it.

The seller informed me, the seals on the turbo had gone bad.... He said there was some oil in the intercooler piping.

Will this be a serious problem?

How expensive is it to fix?

If I have to replace the turbos, should I just upgrade to something better?

Should I look at another car?

Any insight would be VERY appreciated.

Thanks,

-Will

Price is still being negotiated... It will be effected by the cost of fixing the problems, as well as shipping etc.

Im expecting ~$14,000ish after all is said and done.

14k is too much for a car with a blown turbo and dead engine

oh ok, I wasn't sure if the oil in IC piping was a result of the bad seal on the turbos or not....

Since you say the engine is dead, I will look for others.

Its hard finding a good car. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/dry.png

well a film of oil in the intercooler piping is normal, no biggie, but if the compression is very low on the engine, i wouldnt buy it for hta much

Yea, I actually asked him about the compression, he said it was "good".

Now, before buying it I will have him take it to Mazda, and have a compression test done.

Assuming the compression is good.....

Will it still be worth looking into? And if the turbos are the only problem, what will that cost to fix?

Thanks alot for your help..... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

Would it be worth purchasing this car? I'm having trouble finding one. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png

I've got a cherry '93 MBM Touring, mild upgrades, all factory parts kept, 64,xxx miles,it's not for sale, but I'd unload it for $19k. It's got a new Mazda reman. I've been told by local FD owners that it feels way faster than their similarly modded FD's. I'm in Colorado.
