I am posting this for Teddy since he can't remember his password:



So yeah was working on the car last night and accidentally broke an a/c line.



System was full so spent 20 minutes waiting for all pressurized freon to stop hissing.



Anyone have any experience replacing this particular line. It's the small a/c line that runs alongside the reinforcement bar that sits inside the engine. I cracked it near where the main radiator hose is.

some bracket pushed into it and broke it.

doubt it man. i have seen some amazing things with JB but you never can tell. probinly need a new line

I would not suggest JB weld to hold that line, your looking at pressures in the 250 psi range through that line (also known as the high side line) Just replacing the line will not be all that needs replaced, you are going to need a new receiver/drier from Mazda as well for the system to operate at peak efficiency. The reason is that when the system is opened like that moisture is allowed to penetrate into the system, the reciever dryer is there to remove small amounts of moisture that may be trapped in the system over time, but not atmospheric moisture. After replacing the 2 components the system will have to be vacuumed down, oil will have to be added, and the system checked for leaks before you put freon back in.

When I removed the old line I didn't notice any o-rings???



Should I use some sort of thread sealer like teflon tape on the threads before I tighten everything down?

If you didnt notice any o-rings then they are either still in the fittings or on the floor. I just removed all my A/C lines and i know there were o-rings for the condensor and dryer, and if I memory serves me correct ALL A/C systems require o-rings at every fitting due to such rapid expansion / contraction.

I'll have to taken a look again then. But the o-rings alone should be enough to keep a good seal on the threads or should I add something as well. Somebody mentioned some kind of grease.

a sealant wont do any good because it dosnt seal bu the threading, its a compreddion fitting that uses the o-ring for sealing. Teflon tape and thread sealer is used for AN or pipe thread (tapered)

Make sure they are the right kind and lube them w/o before putting it together... Wash the line out before you do that w/ brake cleaner.
