ok that makes more sense

if its not broken dont fix it.....if you get a new bov. have it mounted directly to the intercooler piping...theres no reason to upgrade from stock until you up the boost anyway...

true unless you really like the sound of the bov https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/cool.png

I think he's having a hard time visualizing two BOVs in series. I guess I am too.

Not that big a deal actually. Just cut the hose going from the UIM to the stock BOV and insert a "T". On the bottom end of the "T" connect your hose running off your aftermarket BOV. I have the Apexi 2-Chamber BOV and it's mounted to my Greddy Elbow. Now I have a huge WHOOOSH on both sides of the car https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

max i have an apexi 2 chamber blow off valve as well. if you want it, im selling it. let me know. its is a great bov, i just dont have any real use for one. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

How much boost can the standard bov handle?

JBs93FD 07-19-2006 11:17 PM

sorry to steal a thread but I put a ssqv on the cold side ic piping right before the intake manifold, then i ran a 1'' piece of hose connecting the ports on the uim the used to feed the bypass valves i couldent get it to stop compressor surging until i replaced the bypass valves while the ssqv was still on? can u run a bov without the bypass valves? what if the boost map has big fluctuations in it? are bov more tempermental to a ugly boost map that ran 12 pounds on bypass vales ( its been cleaned up since i first tried the swap)

performance mods so far

3'' turbo back w\ greddy ti cb

2 1\2 '' intakes

aem ems tuned to 14 psi at 11.3 a\f with stock twins

i'm quite confused with this post..

Let me explain a little about BOVs.. and if I'm wrong about some parts, please correct me..

Stock BOV in most cases better than aftermarket bovs. I think there are many misconception about noise and functionality of BOVs. If you aren't running super high boost, just stick with stock ones. I believe you can run 16-17lbs of boost with stockers.. but dont quote me.. you could also check it by putting pressure to the stock BOV and see at what PSI it will start relieving pressure... If you are running high boost, I like the design of Tial BOVs. Also you can change the spring rates on Tial BOVs for high boost application.. Which most aftermarket ones you can't.

Far as JBs93FD's post about HKS SSQV.. I think those BOVs are good for making noises. Like the stock ones, you need to run a vac lines to the manifold. It needs negative pressure from the manifold to open up the BOV.,, and thats the purpose of BOVs.. It has nothing to do with your ECU map (boost map). When the turbo spins to make boost, and when you throttle closes and you start creating vac. in your manifold, you don't want back pressure to slow down your turbo. This is bad for the turbo and hence you want to relieve the pressure. Louder the BOV, the slower it tends to relieve pressure. Hope this clearify some for you.

I beg to differ but i could be wrong hks is the only company who makes the pull type valves, the ssqv has a duel diaphram which under little amounts of boost (cruising) only 1 diaphram opens and lets out yhe least ammount of air nesesary which is why its so loud, when under full boost both diaphrams open. a bov valve vs. a bpv, bov dont leak while building boost unlike bpv which makes spooling quicker. on the boost map issue the map controls wastegate duty, bpv leaks as i was saying there for the map has to be tuned for the loss of pressue, and like i was saying the map had more than 30 different spikes but held boost on the bpv ive since fixed that to a flat platue for the firt turbo an incline in duty around 4500 and another flat platue. I was just curious if the bov was hiting those spots in the map?

I took out the bpv's and the cars boost fine, well alright i cant get the first turbo to boost more than 6 psi 14 -15 on the second is great though
