They block off a port or passage when you remove whatever it was that was supposed to be there.

vosko 10-14-2002 09:45 AM

you need them for when you want to get rid of all the emissions crap!

Dumbrotorkid 10-14-2002 10:05 PM

i.e. air pump and wat not?

vosko 10-14-2002 10:20 PM

ACV, EGR, SPLIT AIR, yadda

jspecracer7 10-16-2002 06:07 AM

ACV is the only one I have blocked off. NO EGR on the JDM FD's...split air is what?

1988RedT2 10-16-2002 06:11 AM

Does anybody sell a block off plate for the EGR, or do you have to make them yourself?

Thanks, Pengaru!

I ordered my EGR blank-off plate today from k2rd. I know I could make my own, but for only $15 including shipping, the store-bought unit is quick & easy.

ok i'm another dumb one.. so when you block these off, do you leave them blocked off? or do you just block them off when you remove something and then take it off and replace that something.. i guess i'm confused as to what exactly you're doing when you block that stuff off

turbovr6 10-19-2002 06:47 PM

you block them off to remove the component from the car permanently.

vosko 10-19-2002 07:15 PM

goddamn i spent twice as much... oh well!!! :(

j9fd3s 10-19-2002 11:30 PM

I bought the mechanical OMP block off plate the other day, k2rd has cheap prices. I hope they are still making money.

yayer 10-20-2002 10:57 AM

and blocking these things off.. helps you in what way ? hp increase ?

It depends on what you are blocking off, when you remove your ACV because you've added headers or removed your air pump (or both) you will need to install a block off plate to take it's place. It's simply a requirement otherwise you will have a big ass intake leak, and exhaust leak, on the side of the lower intake manifold. If your EGR is malfunctioning, or you want to remove it for a potential HP increase (debatable) or just want to preserve it for when you do have to smog the car, a block off plate will need to take it's place... once again, to prevent from having an exhaust leak on the top of the engine. With the metering oil pump block-off plate you would use it when you eliminate the metering oil pump, why one would want to remove it varies... in my case I'm switching to pre-mix because I don't want to inject oil from the sump and motor oil just causes carbon deposits anyways. Pre-mixing 2 stroke oil will lubricate better and burn cleaner. Blocking things off with blockoff plates is just a consequence of removing some sort of accessory, usually emissions related. Wether it results in an HP increase or not depends on what accessory you were eliminating when you needed to use the blockoff plate.
