im about to place an order for either the nitto 555r's or the bf goodrich comp t/a drags. 245/50/16, or 255/50/16 respectively. The car is ONLY driven in dry weather, and supreme traction is a must. The car will also be taken to the track once in a while, so i opted for drag tires outback. I know i have more options such as the bfgoodrich drag t/a's which are totally different than the other bfgoodrich's. what is best to hook on the street or strip? i know nitto's are GREAT tires with a very low lifespan (which i dont care TOO much about) but are the bf's close or better to that? Are there any other tires i can choose for the rear with a possible 10,000 mile span?
as for the front, i figure go with some of the best for handling and low rotating mass, i was thinking on going with the goodyear eagle f-1's (not sure the last part of it but theyre the best they make) what is the best size for front and what kind? i probablly won't do auto-x with my car, but it feels like it when i take corners, so i need really good handling tires for front ( i want the best out of my car )... please help. |
you pinned it...nittos hook more, from what i have seen, and the bfg's last a little while longer.....
i would not drive on them personally, you never knw when it is gonna rain....i like my s-03 pole positions... |
naw i love sliding in the rain, hell i bought a v8 stang for the chicago winter.. right now i have BALD tires all around, so i don't get much out of my car (great for breaking in the engine).
should i just go with the nittos or is there not much of a difference between them and the bf comp drags? |

Your drag tires on the rear may really screw up your desire for a good handling car in the corners. Drag usually means soft sidewall, handling means stiff sidewall. I don't know how soft they make the sidewall on those 2 tires, but it is something you should keep in mind.

the sides on a DR are VERY soft....not like a victoracer or something to the like.....qwester, you are on the money....i ran a 12.9 almost stock and had the s-03's all around.....that is THE only tire that i will outfit my fd with.....
|
damm... how long do the tires live for?
|
Yea, I hope those S-O3's are good. That's what I plan on getting.. but if you plan on using the FD strictly for dragging.. then go with the Nitto 555R's.
|
i will be dragging a LOT, or just stoplight fun. but every now and then you may have to outrun some people chasing you, so i need to handle well too
|
245/50's on the rear all the time will look wierd cuz they are alot taller
