looking to take my rx7 to a shop somewhere in the midwest? I need my motor put in correctly, and hoses connected, pfc installed and then once its together i need it tuned! id also like a shop who can clean up my engine bay and make it look nice and maybe paint my motor a lil to make it look nice.. ill drive within 300 miles of rockford illinois?? anyone got a good one to take it too? they can keep my car as long as they need as long as the job is professional and well done!

I've bought some things from Chris and have always been pleased. He and his wife (who is equally nice over the phone) own and operate the shop. Unfortunately he lives about 10 hrs away from me, but has an excellent reputation on the big forum.

There's also http://www.a-spectuning.com/ in Schaumburg Il. Looks like about an hour away from you. I spoke to someone there on the phone once looking for price on some porting. Wasn't impressed and he never got back to me as promised.

bonzai looks interesting! i like there website also! looks like a 3 hour trip for me roughly! and i have to pull my car all the way there :-(

im going to call bonzai here soon and see how long there wait is for something like im wanting to have done.. and how long it would take them to go threw every lil thing! I want them to clean and make my engine and engine bay look really good! i hope they can do that and paint the motor and small stuff like that too!

I think Banzai is an excellent choice for installing the motor, the PFC, doing a vacuum hose job, tuning...and anything else you might want done mechanically. But I'm not sure about detailing the engine bay etc. Really, that's something that you could/should do yourself IMO, especially if the motor is currently out of the car. Power wash it, scrubbing and cleaning isn't technically complicated. And even if they're willing to do it, they'd probably have to charge you the going labor flat-rate. That will get damn expensive.

And as for painting the irons of the motor, IIRC they offer that during a rebuild, but not sure if it's an already assembled long-block. And frankly you'll never see it once the longblock is reassembled. Here's a couple of pictures of my motor last winter from shortblock to longblock and finally installed. Can you tell the irons were painted?

good point.. i just want it to look all nice and clean so when i pop the hood it doesnt look all grimey and dirty and gross.. thats really all i want!!
