reduces the need for pinning?

Yup. Haven't used one but it is exactly the same principle as a main bearing cradle used for those other funny motors that don't go round and round...

i was waiting for something like this. pinning is so exspensive. and could easily be done wrong...

IMO, the oil pan braces are NOT a substitute for pinning. The oil pan brace is more for spreading the torque of the oil pan bolts evenly across the pan to provide a better seal. It will help resist flex, but not nearly as much as pinning or stronger engine studs.

GreyGT-C 10-04-2007 11:37 PM

EXACTLY what Mahjik said...... it reduces oil pan leaks...thats about it.

sen2two 10-05-2007 02:42 PM

but the idea of pinning is to reduce engine flex. and thats exactly what the brace is doing. im not saying its better than pinning.

but maybe pinning after 300hp is not needed, maybe the brace will be good enough until around 400hp...

reduces the need...not takes its place.

Considering that the brace is only bolted to the bottom of the engine and basically only to 4 bolts (2 per side) for the housings, it's not really resisting engine flex all that much. I have the Gotham Racing oil pan brace, I'm also using the Xtreme Rotaries Engine Stud kit. While I don't have all the physics calculations to prove the point, I don't really think you are going to stop much engine flexing with the brace. As mentioned, it will spread the torque of the bolts for the oil pan. This will, to some extent, resist some flexing.

However, comparing an oil pan brace to pinning or using the larger engine studs is basically like comparing shooting a bullet out of a gun verses throwing one. Just not the same thing.

who said you need your engine pinned at above 300hp? thats just stupid.

your face is stupid.

i think the brace is nice but for less than $ 10.00 permatex will fix any leaky oil pan you can get it at any advanced auto store and im sure even NAPA carries it ! and dowlpinning the motor isnt going too stop the oil pan from leaking THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO with why it leaks in the first place .
