i am pretty rotary inclined now, but need a little guidance...

i met a guy here today and was trying to buy his 94 fd with only 50K on it, and almost had min convinced.

it is an automatic, and he is having some rpm related issues with the tranny....

1. lumpy idle.....i can handle that...

2. when the car is put into gear, the rpm's ROCKET to 7500rpm......

3. see number 2.....

4. seenumber 3.....

...and so on....

can anyone point me in the right direction? could it be a tps or an auto tranny computer problem? i am going to look at it tomorrow, and need a little info before i go.....in the meantime, i am going to consult my manual...

thanks ahead of time....

My friend Brad had the same problem with his skyrocketing in the rpms, and it was a fucked up TPS.

Yeah, it could be the TPS. Go here to see how to adjust and test it. http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/TPS_adjustment.html Very simple. All you need is a voltmeter and a safety pin.

It also might be a very bad vacum leak, like one of the manifold gaskets blown out. I dunno?

Dont you already have a highly modified FD xplicit? I guess you want the auto for a daily driver.

i can handle the TPS, and that of course was my first thought......i have a multimeter and plan to check it in the morning...

i do not think that a vacuum leak would be gear shifted specific.....

Yea, your prolly right about the vacum leak. That was just the first thing I thought, while brain storming about a high rev.

Sounds similar to my friends auto' and he had the EGR replaced. Check the ECU error code and look it up.

are you saying that the egr caused the same issues that i listed? it just seems like it is crank trigger or tps related.....i am going to go home and consult the manual.....but i do not look forward to it, that damn thing is hard to find things in....

Your not getting a check engine light? If it was any of your sensors then you should be getting an error code. It happened to my friends 3rd gen(manual) it was the TPS error code and it just had a bad connection. That was all.

i have not had a chance to get to the car yet. i am going in the morning...
