how about you get an aluminum AST, and leave the cooling system the way the factory designed it.

FikseRxSeven 12-14-2003 11:26 AM

im just thinking of getting rid of it..... cuz since i mounted my intercooler, i have no where to put the AST. so finding out where to find these kits might help me make a decision on my next step

ea but then on hot supper days ur gonna get boiling bubbles or air (sorta) runnin through the rad, i say get aluminum. u can get either one from cam at pettit racing

You can get rid of it all together with no ill effects on the cooling system.

I got rid of that thing a long time ago.

Catch me on aim.

You can either get a 2nd gen filler neck top (it has the nipple already on it)

Or you can just tap the filler neck out and thread in your own nipple and remove the AST all together.

I only took mine off because I couldnt find a decent place to mount the alluminum i had.

Its fine either way.

exactly the same reason as me dave......

plus if dave's lasts without an ast..... mine would last longer, since i dont drive nearly as hard as dave

Well I dont see why anyone would want to keep the ast since it really doesnt matter if you have it or not but hey enjoy your ride either way

My water temperature dropped about 10 degrees when I removed mine !.

what was the factory purpose of the ast? i see lots of people removing it saying they run cooler etc.. mazda spent a solid amount of r&d on the fd so why have it? some of the things on the fd were concessions to emmisions but the ast?
